Deep Groove Ball Bearings FAG 6008

FAG 6008 deep-groove ball bearing, dimensions 40x68x15 mm, open design and sheet steel cage, for a wide range of industrial and repair drives.

The single-row deep groove ball bearing 6008 is a versatile rolling bearing designed primarily for radial loads. In rotating shafts, this design also accommodates axial forces in both directions. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) with raceways in the standard tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1), the bearing operates quietly. Due to its open design without integrated sealing washers, this version is particularly suitable for installation in enclosed housings with a central lubrication supply.

For which operating conditions is the 6008 deep groove ball bearing suitable?

This bearing is designed for applications with predominantly radial loads and moderate axial forces. As the outer ring has neither a flange nor a ring groove, the component can be fitted flush into cylindrical housing bores. The integrated sheet steel cage keeps the rolling elements at a uniform distance from one another. This design is particularly suitable for applications where existing oil lubrication or a lubrication area sealed on site provides a continuous supply to the rolling elements.

When is the open design of the bearing the right choice?

The open design offers low frictional resistance because there are no sealing lips on the inner ring that come into contact with it. Designs with oil bath or recirculating lubrication take advantage of this, as lubricating oil can circulate unhindered. At the same time, the open design requires protection against the ingress of external contaminants through the machine housing. With normal radial bearing clearance, the play corresponds to standard fit conditions at moderate operating temperatures between –20 and +150 degrees Celsius.

What are the dimensions of the 6008 deep-groove ball bearing?

The bearing has an inner diameter of 40 mm, an outer diameter of 68 mm and a width of 15 mm. These standardised key dimensions allow for direct replacement in precisely machined bearing seats on shafts and housings.

What does the open design of the 6008 deep-groove ball bearing mean?

Open roller bearings are supplied ex-works without end caps or contact seals. They are not pre-lubricated and are intended for applications in which lubricants such as oil or grease are supplied from the outside and the surrounding housing provides protection against dirt.

What is the temperature range for which the 6008 deep-groove ball bearing is designed?

The roller bearing is designed for use at ambient temperatures ranging from -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. Within this range, the components made from roller bearing steel retain their dimensional stability provided they are properly lubricated.

What does ‘normal radial bearing clearance’ mean for this bearing?

Normal radial bearing clearance refers to the standard radial clearance between the outer ring, rolling elements and inner ring when the bearing is not installed. This design is suitable for standard fits on the shaft and in the housing, provided there are no extreme temperature differences.

What is the purpose of the sheet steel cage?

The sheet steel cage keeps the rolling balls at a uniform distance from one another and prevents direct contact between the rolling elements. This contributes to even load distribution, low friction and smooth running.

What materials are rings and rolling elements made of?

Both the bearing rings and the rolling elements are made from standard 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel. This case-hardened chrome steel is characterised by high compressive strength and dimensional stability under dynamic loads.
