The SKF 6002-2Z deep-groove ball bearing combines compact dimensions of 15 × 32 × 9 mm with cover plates on both sides and enhanced P6/P5 precision for demanding rotational movements.
The single-row deep groove ball bearing 6002 -2Z primarily accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel in the SKF Explorer design, this component is characterised by a clean internal geometry and smooth running. A guided sheet steel cage maintains a uniform spacing between the rolling elements. Thanks to its standard radial clearance, the bearing is suitable for typical operating temperatures between –20 and +120 degrees Celsius.
This rolling bearing is primarily used in compact machine units as well as in small electrical and mechanical drives. The double-sided cover with non-contacting sheet metal shields prevents coarse dirt from penetrating directly into the interior, whilst the grease remains within the bearing chamber. As the cover plates operate without direct contact with the inner ring, there are no significant friction losses. This is particularly suitable for high-speed shafts with continuous rotational movement.
The combination of dimensional accuracy to tolerance class P6 and running accuracy to tolerance class P5 supports precisely guided rotational movements. The tighter dimensional tolerances simplify precise alignment with adjacent shaft and housing seats. At the same time, the concentricity precision reduces mechanical vibrations in the system. This is particularly beneficial in precisely guided drive trains where smooth running is required.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 15 mm, an external diameter of 32 mm and a width of 9 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove. These standardised mounting dimensions allow for straightforward installation in precisely fitted housing bores and on corresponding shafts.
The designation -2Z refers to two cover plates made of profiled sheet steel, fitted on both sides. These plates form a narrow gap with the rotating inner ring. They keep solid particles and dust out without generating any additional frictional heat. The bearing is therefore suitable for high-speed applications in moderately dusty environments.
The operating temperature range is specified as -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. This range is essentially limited by the thermal resistance of the 100Cr6 roller bearing steel and the lubricant filling between the end plates. Operation outside this range requires separate lubrication and sealing solutions.
Standard radial bearing clearance refers to the factory-set clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways when the bearing is unmounted. After being pressed onto the shaft and fitted into the housing, a small amount of residual clearance remains, which compensates for thermal expansion. At normal operating temperatures, this standard clearance class ensures smooth running and even load distribution.
Deep-groove ball bearings designated as SKF Explorer undergo optimised manufacturing processes that result in improved surface finishes on the raceways and balls. In combination with the homogeneous 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, this surface finish reduces internal stresses in the material and minimises noise levels. As a result, the bearings operate particularly smoothly, even under sustained loads.
Inside the bearing, a dimensionally stable sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements. Sheet metal cages are characterised by their low weight and resistance to the effects of lubricants. They take up little space within the rolling chamber, leaving sufficient free volume for the lubricant to be deposited between the two end plates.
