The FAG 16002-Z deep groove ball bearing combines compact dimensions of 15 × 32 × 8 mm with a single-sided sheet metal cover to protect the rolling elements.
The 16002 -Z deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6), which accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial loads. With a bore of 15 mm, an outside diameter of 32 mm and a narrow width of 8 mm, this design requires little axial installation space. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly along the raceways. The manufacturer, FAG, produces this variant in tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1) with standard radial clearance.
This deep-groove ball bearing is used in designs where compact dimensions and precise guidance are required. Typical applications include rotating shaft assemblies and compact drive units in general mechanical engineering. Thanks to the standard radial clearance, the bearing operates at normal operating temperatures without excessive operating clearance. As the outer ring is designed without a flange or ring groove, the component can be fitted flush into cylindrical housing bores and secured axially by means of locating shoulders.
The designation ‘Z’ stands for a single-sided, non-contacting cover plate made of sheet steel. This cover protects the interior of the bearing from the ingress of coarser dirt particles without generating additional heat through friction during operation. The opposite open side allows direct access to lubricant from the housing or enables manual relubrication. With permissible operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees, this design offers a practical solution for semi-sealed assemblies.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 15 mm for the shaft seat, an outer diameter of 32 mm for the housing bore and a width of 8 mm. This design is characterised by a narrow cross-section, which facilitates a space-saving design within the housing.
The suffix ‘Z’ indicates single-sided protection provided by a non-contact sheet metal cover. It keeps dirt particles out from one side, causes no additional frictional resistance and limits grease leakage. The opposite side remains open, allowing lubricants from the interior to reach the raceways unhindered.
The normal radial bearing clearance refers to the standard radial clearance of the rolling elements between the inner and outer rings in their unloaded initial state. It is designed to suit standard shaft and housing fits as well as normal operating temperatures, ensuring that the bearing assembly neither seizes nor exhibits excessive play during operation.
The permissible temperature range is from -30 to +120 degrees. Within these limits, both the standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) used and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability and strength. When selecting the lubricant, care should be taken to ensure that its operating limits also correspond to this temperature range.
The inner ring, outer ring and rolling elements are made from through-hardened standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. This material offers high hardness and fatigue strength under rolling loads. The design is complemented by a lightweight cage made of sheet steel, which keeps the balls at a uniform distance from one another.
P0 or PN stands for the standard tolerance and corresponds to the ABEC 1 classification. This standard class defines limit values for dimensional, geometric and running accuracy, which meet the requirements of standard industrial applications and drives.
