The SKF 6314 -2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing with a 70 mm bore, non-contacting sheet metal end shields and increased C3 clearance.
The 6314 -2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing in a standard design without a flange or groove on the outer ring. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), the bearing can accommodate radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. With a bore diameter of 70 mm, an outer diameter of 150 mm and a width of 35 mm, this SKF bearing is suitable for a wide range of industrial applications.
This rolling bearing is typically used in designs where load-carrying capacity is combined with speed capacity. Thanks to its non-contacting cover plates, this design is particularly suitable for dust-protected environments in general mechanical engineering and industrial drives. As the bearing is sealed on both sides, the lubricant remains inside whilst coarse dirt particles are kept away from the rolling elements. The combination of standard tolerance P0 and a single-row design contributes to smooth running under continuous load.
The suffixes define the technical features of this bearing variant. The abbreviation 2Z stands for sheet metal cover plates fitted on both sides, which provide contactless coverage and thus generate hardly any additional frictional heat. The suffix C3 denotes a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This additional internal clearance compensates for thermal expansion at operating temperatures between –20 and +120 degrees, as well as press fits on the shaft and housing, without the bearing becoming stressed. A sheet steel cage guides the balls evenly into the raceways.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 70 mm, an external diameter of 150 mm and a total width of 35 mm. These standardised key dimensions allow it to be fitted into standardised housing bores and onto suitable shafts in mechanical engineering.
The designation 2Z refers to cover plates made of profiled sheet steel fitted on both sides. These shields form a non-contact sealing gap with the inner ring. They protect the rolling elements from solid contaminants and retain the lubricant inside the bearing without generating any significant frictional heat.
The designation C3 indicates a radial bearing clearance that is slightly greater than that of standard bearings. This counteracts any tightening that may occur if the bearing contracts due to heating or tight fits on the 70 mm shaft. As a result, smooth operation is maintained even under thermal stress.
The deep-groove ball bearing is designed for operation within a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. Both the standard roller bearing steel used and the sheet steel cage are suited to this temperature range in industrial applications.
This bearing type is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 (also known as standard tolerance PN, comparable to ABEC 1). This tolerance class meets the usual accuracy requirements for standard industrial applications without any increased precision specifications.
The inner and outer rings, as well as the rolling elements, are made from standard 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel. A dimensionally stable cage made from pressed sheet steel, designed to ensure consistent rotational speeds, guides the balls and maintains a defined spacing between them.
