The FAG 6217 -2Z deep-groove ball bearing (85x150x28 mm) features sheet metal shields on both sides to protect against particles whilst maintaining a compact design.
The 6217-2Z deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing designed primarily for radial loads. With an inside diameter of 85 mm, an outside diameter of 150 mm and a width of 28 mm, this design is suitable for a wide range of shaft constructions in mechanical engineering. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, the bearing complies with tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1). A guided sheet steel cage maintains an even spacing between the rolling elements and ensures smooth running.
In terms of design, the 6217 -2Z deep-groove ball bearing is suitable for rotating shafts subjected to predominantly radial loads and moderate axial forces in both directions. The deep raceway geometry accommodates these combined force components. As the outer ring has no flange or groove, the component can be fitted flush into cylindrical housing bores. The permissible temperature range extends from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius, meaning the bearing can withstand the typical thermal conditions encountered in continuous industrial operation.
The double-sided cover with non-contacting sheet metal discs (designation 2Z) protects the interior of the bearing from coarse dirt particles and swarf. Unlike sliding seals, metallic gap seals do not generate any additional frictional heat on the rotating surfaces. The bearing is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance. This specification is suitable for fits and operating conditions involving moderate heating, where no increased operating clearance is required.
With a bore of 85 mm, an external diameter of 150 mm and a width of 28 mm, the dimensions comply with the standardised series. These dimensions allow for direct fitting onto suitable shafts and into corresponding housing bores in mechanical and plant engineering.
The designation 2Z indicates that both sides are covered by cover plates made of profiled sheet steel. These plates form a non-contact sealing gap which minimises grease leakage and prevents solid contaminants from entering, without increasing the friction torque of the rolling elements.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. Within these limits, the rings and rolling elements made of roller bearing steel, as well as the integrated sheet steel cage, retain their dimensional stability and strength during operation.
This version is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance. This bearing clearance is used for standard mounting fits and normal operating temperatures, where thermal expansion does not require increased radial clearance.
Standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel is used for the rings and rolling elements, as it offers high compressive strength under load. The rolling element cage is made from sheet steel, enabling it to withstand mechanical stresses during operation.
As a radial deep-groove ball bearing, the design primarily withstands forces acting perpendicular to the shaft. Thanks to the continuous raceways in the inner and outer rings, the bearing can also withstand moderate axial forces in both directions.
