The SKF 16005 deep groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 25x47x8 mm, offers compact dimensions and enhanced P6 and P5 precision for demanding radial loads.
The 16005 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing with a 25 mm bore, a 47 mm outer diameter and an 8 mm width. Manufactured from 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel, it primarily accommodates radial forces and moderate axial loads in both directions. The open design, without integrated sealing washers, allows for direct lubrication via the housing system. In the SKF Explorer version, this component features an optimised internal geometry.
This single-row bearing is primarily used where designs require narrow installation spaces with a small radial cross-section. Typical applications can be found in general mechanical engineering as well as in compact units where a clean installation environment with an external lubricant supply is available. Thanks to its temperature-stable operating range of -20 to +120 degrees, this design can be used in thermally demanding environments. The guided sheet steel cage maintains the rolling elements at a uniform distance and is suitable for medium to high speeds.
In this rolling bearing, the design combines P6 dimensional accuracy with P5 running accuracy, which means tighter tolerances than those of the standard tolerance. The tighter dimensional control simplifies the design of a precise fit on the shaft and in the bearing housing. At the same time, the P5 running accuracy contributes to low-vibration operation, as radial and axial deviations of the inner ring are minimised. As this open design has no built-in protection against dust or moisture, operation within a protected housing is recommended.
The roller bearing has an inside diameter of 25 mm, an outside diameter of 47 mm and a width of 8 mm. These dimensions are characterised by a particularly narrow radial cross-section. The component is therefore particularly suitable for space-saving designs where the available installation space is limited.
The open design does not feature factory-fitted sealing washers or cover plates, meaning that the rolling elements and the sheet steel cage are freely accessible. This allows lubricants such as oil or grease to reach the raceways directly. However, this variant requires a clean housing design with external sealing elements to prevent the ingress of dirt particles and moisture.
P6 denotes improved dimensional accuracy for mating dimensions such as bore and outside diameter compared with the standard tolerance. P5 describes even finer running accuracy of the bearing rings. Together, these classes reduce run-out error during operation. This results in smoother running and is particularly recommended for precisely guided shafts in machine and fixture construction.
The bearing is specified for operating temperatures between -20 and +120 degrees. Both the rings and rolling elements made of 100Cr6 steel and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability within this range. When determining the operating temperature, you should also take into account the flow and temperature behaviour of the externally supplied lubricant.
This product features standard radial bearing clearance, often referred to as CN. This design is optimised for standard fit combinations and operating temperatures at which the rings do not heat up to vastly different degrees during operation. Once pressed onto the shaft and housing, the radial clearance ensures smooth, jam-free operation.
Explorer roller bearings feature improved material purity and optimised contact geometry between the rolling elements and raceways. The refined surface finish reduces internal friction under load. These targeted manufacturing adjustments promote uniform stress distribution within the material and help to increase fatigue life under comparable operating conditions.
