The SKF 623-2Z deep groove ball bearing, with a 3 mm bore and cover plates on both sides, offers low-friction protection for compact shaft mountings.
The 623-2Z deep groove ball bearing is a single-row miniature rolling bearing from SKF designed for shaft diameters of 3 mm. With an outside diameter of 10 mm and a width of 4 mm, the component primarily withstands radial loads, but also handles small axial forces in both directions. The outer ring, inner ring and rolling elements are made of standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). Manufacture to standard tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1) ensures the dimensional accuracy required in commercial machinery and equipment manufacturing.
Designs with very limited installation space represent the typical field of application for the 623-2Z deep groove ball bearing. Typical applications include the guidance of small shafts and axles where dirt particles need to be kept away from the raceways. The version with non-contacting cover plates is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from –20 to +120 degrees Celsius under normal industrial environmental conditions.
The suffix -2Z denotes cover plates made of sheet steel fitted on both sides. Unlike abrasive rubber seals, these gap seals do not come into contact with the inner ring. This keeps frictional resistance low, enabling higher speeds without additional heating. The shields keep coarse dust and foreign particles out of the bearing interior. In combination with the standard radial bearing clearance and the guided sheet steel cage, the bearing is designed for applications where standard fits are used without excessive thermal expansion.
The bearing has an internal bore of 3 mm, an external diameter of 10 mm and a width of 4 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical, with no flange or groove. These compact dimensions make the component the ideal choice for precision mechanical shafts and small-diameter devices.
The designation -2Z indicates cover plates made of sheet steel pressed in on both sides. This design acts as a non-contact gap seal to prevent the ingress of larger particles of dirt. As there is no direct sliding contact with the inner ring, friction is kept to a minimum, which promotes high speeds and smooth running.
Standard radial bearing clearance, often referred to as tolerance class CN, provides a defined internal operating clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways. It is designed for the vast majority of standard applications in which conventional fits are used on the shaft and housing and where there are no extreme temperature differences.
The rings and rolling elements are made from the tried-and-tested standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. This through-hardened material offers high compressive strength and dimensional stability. A robust sheet steel cage ensures the even guidance of the balls and holds the bearing together under varying loads.
The combination of roller bearing steel, a sheet steel cage and sheet metal end plates covers a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. This range is sufficient for most industrial applications and small drives, provided that the ambient temperature does not exceed the thermal limits.
The P0 tolerance class (equivalent to ABEC 1 under the American standard) defines the permissible dimensional and geometric deviations for standard industrial bearings. It ensures compliance with specified fit tolerances for standard shaft and housing seats, as is customary in mass-production and repair applications.
