The FAG 6406 deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 30 × 90 × 23 mm, offers a robust bearing solution for combined radial and axial loads in industrial machinery.
The 6406 deep-groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing to standard tolerance class P0/PN, manufactured from standard rolling-bearing steel (100Cr6). Designed as an open bearing, it accommodates radial forces as well as axial loads in both directions. With its solid outer ring measuring 90 mm in diameter and a compact 30 mm bore, this type belongs to the heavy-duty series, making it suitable for designs subject to high mechanical stress.
This deep-groove ball bearing is particularly suitable for designs in which high radial forces act on slender shafts. As the bearing is open at both ends, the lubricant can reach the rolling elements and raceways unhindered. Ideally, the component should be integrated into enclosed housing systems with external seals, such as in industrial gearboxes or power units with oil or grease lubrication.
The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements precisely and keeps the weight of the rotating components to a minimum. Together with the standard radial bearing clearance, the design is optimised for balanced operating clearance under typical installation conditions. The permissible temperature range extends from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius, making the bearing suitable for standard industrial temperatures. With no flange or ring groove on the outer ring, it fits directly into cylindrical housing bores.
The roller bearing has an inner diameter of 30 mm, an outer diameter of 90 mm and a width of 23 mm. Thanks to this cross-section, the single-row component offers a substantial wall thickness, which absorbs considerable forces during operation. Both rings and the rolling elements are made from standard 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel.
An open deep-groove ball bearing is supplied ex-works without cover plates or sealing washers on its end faces. Lubricants such as oil or grease can circulate freely within the housing cavity, cooling and lubricating the rolling bearing. The bearing housing therefore requires external sealing elements on the housing cover to prevent the ingress of dirt particles and moisture.
The permissible operating range is between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. Both the roller bearing steel and the robust sheet steel cage retain their mechanical dimensional stability within this temperature range. When selecting a lubricant, you should ensure that its viscosity and composition are approved for these operating temperatures.
P0 denotes the standardised tolerance class for rolling bearings, which corresponds to the ABEC 1 classification in the Anglo-American region. It defines the permissible dimensional deviations for the bore, outer diameter and width, as well as the concentricity. For common industrial applications, this class offers practical precision combined with cost-effective manufacturing.
Normal bearing clearance refers to the defined radial clearance between the outer ring, inner ring and rolling elements when the bearing is not mounted. It is designed for standard fit conditions and normal operating temperatures. Once the bearing has been pressed onto the shaft, this radial clearance is reduced to the required operating clearance.
In this model, a robust sheet steel cage guides the balls evenly along their path. The cage prevents the rolling elements from coming into contact with one another, thereby reducing friction and heat build-up. Sheet steel is characterised by high strength, low weight and resistance to common industrial lubricants.
