With its compact dimensions of 70 × 90 × 10 mm, the SKF 61814 deep-groove ball bearing effectively saves installation space whilst being lightweight.
The 61814 deep-groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing with a particularly narrow cross-section. Designed as an open bearing, it accommodates radial and moderate axial loads whilst ensuring smooth running. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, the raceways and rolling elements offer high dimensional stability. The inner and outer rings have no flange or groove. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly through the bearing chamber.
This design is primarily used where relatively large shaft diameters are combined with tight radial installation spaces. Thanks to its narrow cross-section, the thin-section bearing is suitable for weight-optimised designs and applications with a small radial clearance between the shaft and housing. It accommodates radial loads and, thanks to its open design, can be integrated directly into systems with housing lubrication.
In the case of an open rolling bearing without integrated seals, the lubricant is supplied via the surrounding housing structure. External sealing elements help to prevent dirt particles and moisture from entering the bearing chamber. The bearing is designed with standard radial clearance and tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. The permissible operating temperature range is from –20 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 70 mm, an outer diameter of 90 mm and a width of 10 mm. Thanks to this narrow design, it is classified as a thin-section bearing, which takes up very little radial space, particularly when used with large shaft diameters.
Open bearings have neither sealing washers nor cover plates at their ends. This results in lower frictional resistance during operation and allows for flexible lubrication via the housing system. A clean housing seat and external seals must be provided.
Normal radial bearing clearance refers to the internal clearance between the rolling elements and raceways when the bearing is new and unloaded. It serves as the standard specification for typical operating temperatures and conventional fits, where there is no need to compensate for thermally induced housing expansion or tight press fits.
Both the rings and the rolling elements are made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. This material offers high hardness and fatigue strength under rolling contact. The balls are guided by a sheet steel cage.
The permissible operating temperature range for the 61814 deep-groove ball bearing is from -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. Within these limits, both the rolling bearing steel and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability and mechanical properties.
The bearing complies with tolerance class P0 or PN, which is also known internationally as ABEC 1. This standard tolerance defines precise limit dimensions for the bore, outer diameter and concentricity, enabling the bearing to be fitted in a wide range of applications within general mechanical engineering.
