The SKF 6005-Z deep-groove ball bearing features compact dimensions of 25 × 47 × 12 mm and provides one-sided protection against dirt particles whilst minimising friction.
The single-row deep groove ball bearing 6005 -Z is designed to accommodate radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), this variant from the SKF Explorer range combines enhanced dimensional and running accuracy with a robust sheet steel cage. With a 25 mm bore, 47 mm outer diameter and 12 mm width, the bearing is suitable for common installation scenarios in mechanical engineering. The standard radial clearance ensures smooth running at operating temperatures between –20 and +150 degrees Celsius.
Design engineers primarily use this deep-groove ball bearing in compact units and shaft mountings where one side of the bearing is protected inside the housing. As the cylindrical outer ring is designed without a flange or ring groove, the component fits flush into precisely machined housing bores. The combination of P6 dimensional accuracy and P5 running accuracy supports designs that rely on low-vibration rotation and tightly guided shafts.
The -Z designation refers to a non-abrasive cover plate made of sheet steel on one side of the bearing. This cover keeps coarse contaminants away from the raceways without generating any additional frictional torque. The opposite open side allows the bearing to be continuously lubricated from a common oil bath or grease chamber inside the machine. During installation, it is therefore advisable to position the protected side towards the potential source of contamination.
With a bore of 25 mm, an outer diameter of 47 mm and a width of 12 mm, the bearing complies with the standardised main dimensions. The outer ring has a cylindrical end without a groove or flange, which allows the bearing to be fitted precisely into housing bores.
The suffix -Z indicates a single-sided cover consisting of a non-contacting sheet metal cover plate. It protects the interior of the bearing from solid particles without causing any additional friction. The other side of the bearing remains open and is therefore suitable for lubricant supply via the surrounding unit.
This classification combines dimensional accuracy in accordance with Class P6 with higher running accuracy in accordance with Class P5. The deviations in bore and outer diameters are therefore tighter than with standard tolerances, whilst the run-out exhibits reduced radial run-out. This helps to reduce vibrations in tightly toleranced shaft-bearing assemblies.
The 6005-Z deep-groove ball bearing is specified for an operating temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. The integrated sheet steel cage and the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel retain their dimensional stability within this range. At higher temperatures, the lubricant used must be specifically selected to withstand the thermal load.
The version shown has standard radial bearing clearance. This standard clearance between the balls and raceways is designed for normal operating temperatures and standard shaft fits. It helps to prevent the bearing from becoming stressed once fitted, provided there are no extreme temperature differences between the inner and outer rings.
The cage, made of pressed sheet steel, keeps the rolling elements at a uniform distance from one another and prevents them from coming into contact whilst the bearing is in operation. This cage design is characterised by its low weight and good lubricant permeability, and can withstand operating temperatures of up to +150 degrees.
