The FAG 6318-C3 deep groove ball bearing, measuring 90 × 190 × 43 mm, offers increased clearance (C3) for industrial applications at temperatures ranging from -20 to +150 degrees.
The single-row deep-groove ball bearing 6318 -C3 from FAG accommodates radial loads as well as axial forces in both directions. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) and guided by a dimensionally stable sheet steel cage, the component operates within a temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees. Thanks to its tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1), the rolling bearing is suitable for a wide range of industrial applications. As an open design without sealing washers, the construction allows lubricant to be supplied directly via the surrounding system.
Typical applications include general mechanical engineering, industrial gearboxes and larger electric motors. As the design features no seals, the bearing is particularly suitable for housings with external sealing and central oil or grease lubrication. The open design allows for free lubricant flow and minimises internal frictional resistance. Furthermore, the smooth outer ring without a flange facilitates installation in precision-machined housing bores.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance between the rolling elements and raceways helps to prevent the bearing from becoming stressed when it heats up or in the case of tight fits. If temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation, the C3 bearing clearance compensates for thermal expansion. An external seal on the bearing housing reliably protects the open bearing from contamination.
The roller bearing has an inner diameter of 90 mm for mounting on the shaft, an outer diameter of 190 mm and a width of 43 mm. These standardised dimensions allow for unambiguous identification during repairs, maintenance work or new designs in industrial mechanical engineering.
An open bearing does not have any integrated sealing or cover plates as standard. This allows the lubricant to circulate freely, which is particularly advantageous in oil-bath or recirculating lubrication systems. At the same time, the open design requires a clean environment or a housing design with separate sealing elements to protect against foreign particles.
When installed, the C3 clearance provides more radial clearance than the standard class. This is advantageous where tight press fits constrict the bearing rings or where high operating temperatures lead to uneven thermal expansion of the shaft and housing. This ensures that the operating clearance remains within the permissible range.
This roller bearing is designed for use at ambient temperatures ranging from -20 to +150 degrees. The thermal suitability of the rolling elements, bearing steel and sheet steel cage thus meets many thermal requirements in mechanical and plant engineering, provided that the lubricant used is suitable for this temperature range.
The inner and outer rings, as well as the rolling elements, are made of standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). The cage is made of pressed sheet steel; it guides the balls evenly along their path and withstands mechanical stresses during continuous operation.
The bearing complies with the standard tolerance of tolerance class P0/PN, which is comparable to ABEC 1. This standard level of precision with regard to dimensional, form and running deviations fully meets the technical requirements of standard industrial drives and shaft bearings.
