The SKF 6217 deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 85x150x28 mm, offers reliable performance for withstanding radial and moderate axial loads in mechanical engineering.
The 6217 deep groove ball bearing is a versatile single-row radial rolling bearing. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel, this product belongs to the SKF Explorer performance class, which is characterised by optimised internal geometries and fine surface finishes. The bearing features a robust sheet steel cage that guides the rolling elements evenly. With no flange or groove on the outer ring, the unit fits neatly into cylindrical housing bores.
This bearing is primarily used in rotating assemblies and industrial shaft mountings. Thanks to its deep raceways, the single-row bearing primarily accommodates radial loads, but can also handle axial loads in both directions. This design is suitable for applications where rigid shaft guidance is required and where smooth, low-noise operation during continuous service is a priority.
As an open variant, this bearing has no integrated seals or cover plates. The lubricant can circulate freely, which is why this design is suitable for lubrication systems with external sealing within the housing. During design, care must be taken to ensure that the housing seal is functioning correctly to prevent the ingress of dirt. The standard radial bearing clearance provides a defined operating clearance under standard mounting conditions and moderate temperature differences between the shaft and the housing.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 85 mm, an external diameter of 150 mm and a width across flats of 28 mm. These standardised key dimensions enable it to be fitted precisely onto shafts and into housing bores of the corresponding dimensions.
An open bearing has neither cover plates nor sealing lips in contact with the shaft as supplied ex works. The rolling elements and raceways are exposed, which means the bearing is supplied with oil or grease directly via an external lubrication system. At the same time, the bearing housing must be protected from contamination by housing covers or shaft seals.
The permissible operating range is between -20 degrees and +120 degrees Celsius. Within this temperature range, both the roller bearing steel and the integrated sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability. The choice of lubricant must be suited to this operating range.
The standard radial bearing clearance corresponds to the conventional internal clearance between the balls and raceways when the bearing is unmounted. It is dimensioned such that, after press-fitting onto standard shaft and housing seats, the bearing continues to run smoothly under normal operating conditions without any undue stress.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance P0, which corresponds to the designation PN or the international standard ABEC 1. This standard accuracy class reliably meets common industrial requirements regarding dimensional, geometric and running accuracy.
Inside, a robust sheet steel cage guides the balls at regular intervals. This type of cage is characterised by its low weight, is designed for the specified temperature range and allows sufficient space for the circulating lubricant.
