The SKF 6038 M deep groove ball bearing, with a 190 mm bore, 290 mm outer diameter and a brass cage, offers a robust solution for large shafts.
The 6038 M deep-groove ball bearing is a single-row large-diameter rolling bearing to tolerance class P0/PN, manufactured from standard rolling-bearing steel 100Cr6. Designed as an open bearing, it primarily accommodates radial loads as well as axial guidance forces on both sides. With dimensions of a 190 mm bore diameter, a 290 mm outer diameter and a width of 46 mm, the component is primarily used in heavy machinery manufacturing. The bearing is manufactured by SKF and has a standard radial clearance.
This single-row deep-groove ball bearing is suitable for large-shaft bearings where high radial forces and combined axial forces in both directions must be accommodated. The open design allows lubricant to be replaced via the surrounding housing, but requires a sealed housing construction to prevent the ingress of contaminants.
The component is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. The cylindrical outer ring, which has no ring groove or flange, is fitted directly into precisely matched housing bores.
The brass cage guides the rolling elements with high mechanical stability and is suitable for applications involving vibrations, varying speeds and increased thermal demands. Brass has high strength and ensures reliable guidance of the balls during operation.
As there are no integrated seals, sealing is achieved via external sealing elements in the design. The standard radial bearing clearance is designed for installation situations with standard fits and uniform heat distribution.
With an internal diameter of 190 mm, an external diameter of 290 mm and a width of 46 mm, this model is one of the large bearings in the 60 series. It is designed for large-diameter shafts in industrial mechanical engineering.
The suffix ‘M’ denotes a version with a brass cage. This material ensures that the balls are guided in a dimensionally stable manner and is suitable for bearing locations that are exposed to vibrations, dynamic loads or higher temperatures.
The permissible operating range is between -20 degrees and +150 degrees Celsius. Both the 100Cr6 roller bearing steel and the brass cage are designed for this temperature range. The bearing requires lubricants that are specified for these operating temperatures.
The unsealed design does not feature any sealing washers fitted at the factory, which means that lubricants from the surrounding system can reach the raceways unhindered. This design results in lower friction losses and is suitable for oil and grease lubrication with an external housing seal.
The ‘Normal’ bearing clearance class refers to the standardised radial clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways. It is intended for standard fit conditions where no extreme temperature differences occur between the inner ring and the outer ring during operation.
Manufacturing is carried out in accordance with the ‘Normal’ tolerance class (P0/PN or ABEC 1). This standard defines the permissible dimensional and concentricity tolerances for industrial applications and enables precise fitting onto the shaft and into the bearing housing.
