The SKF 4200 ATN9 double-row deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 10x30x14 mm, offers a compact design for combined radial and axial loads.
Thanks to its two adjacent rows of balls, this 4200 ATN9 double-row deep groove ball bearing can withstand higher radial forces than single-row variants with the same outer diameter. SKF manufactures the rings and rolling elements from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel to tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1). Designed as an open bearing, this component is suitable for designs with external sealing and lubrication via an existing oil bath or centralised lubrication system.
Design engineers use the 4200 ATN9 deep-groove ball bearing when limited radial installation space must be combined with a required load-carrying capacity. This design primarily supports radial loads whilst simultaneously accommodating axial forces in both directions. Typical applications include general mechanical engineering, gearboxes and guide rollers. Thanks to its open design, lubricant reaches the raceways unimpeded, allowing heat to be dissipated directly into the lubrication circuit during operation.
The designation ATN9 refers to a polyamide cage that keeps the rolling elements spaced apart. The material reduces mass compared with solid metal cages and minimises friction losses and operating noise. The permissible temperature range is from –20 to +120 degrees Celsius. When designing the bearing, select lubricants that are compatible with the cage material and take the standard radial bearing clearance into account when determining the fits between the shaft and housing.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 10 mm, an outside diameter of 30 mm and a total width of 14 mm. The outer ring has a cylindrical surface without a flange or groove. Before fitting, the cylindrical bearing seats should be checked for dimensional accuracy.
The suffix ATN9 denotes a polyamide cage. This material reduces the weight of the roller bearing, ensures smooth running and operates with low friction. The permissible temperature range is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius.
Two parallel rows of balls distribute the forces acting on the bearing across a larger number of rolling elements. As a result, the bearing can withstand higher loads than a single-row bearing whilst retaining the same main dimensions. The design also allows axial forces to be absorbed in both directions.
As this open bearing has no cover or sealing washers, apply the lubricant during assembly or through the housing. The bearing is suitable for both grease and oil lubrication. An external housing seal protects the raceways from dirt particles and moisture.
The component has a standard radial bearing clearance. This standard value refers to the internal clearance between the rolling elements and the rings prior to installation. It is designed to suit common transition fits, ensuring that sufficient freedom of movement is maintained during operation without excessive preload.
The bearing complies with tolerance class P0 or Normal (PN), which is equivalent to ABEC 1. This precision grade fully meets the standard requirements of drive technology and mechanical engineering in terms of concentricity and dimensional accuracy.
