The SKF deep groove ball bearing 6207 -2Z/C3, with a 35 mm bore, sheet metal shields on both sides and a C3 clearance, offers reliable protection against contamination at elevated operating temperatures.
The SKF 6207 -2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing is a versatile radial rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6). As a single-row bearing, it accommodates radial loads as well as axial forces acting in both directions. With main dimensions of 35 mm inner diameter and 72 mm outer diameter, and a width of 17 mm, this component fits into numerous standardised housings. A robust sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly along the raceway and maintains the bearing’s dimensional stability even under dynamic loads.
This rolling bearing is primarily used in rotating systems that require a non-contact seal against coarse particles. These include rotating shafts in industrial drives where low friction and protection against coarse contaminants are required. The sheet metal cover plates on both sides keep out dirt particles and reduce lubricant leakage without causing friction losses due to sliding contact. This makes the design particularly well-suited to medium to high speeds under constant or varying loads.
The designation C3 indicates an increased bearing clearance compared to the standard when the bearing is unmounted. This clearance reserve compensates for heat-induced expansion of the shaft and inner ring during operation. Furthermore, the increased bearing clearance helps to prevent the rolling elements from becoming stressed when tight fits in the bearing seat cause the inner ring to expand. With the standard tolerance P0 or ABEC 1 and a permissible temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees, this variant offers a high level of operational reliability in demanding industrial environments.
The bearing has a bore of 35 mm, an outside diameter of 72 mm and a width of 17 mm. The cylindrical outer ring has a smooth finish, i.e. without a flange or groove. Thanks to these standard dimensions, the single-row deep-groove ball bearing can be fitted into many existing designs and standard housings.
The suffix -2Z denotes cover discs made of sheet steel, fitted on both sides. These gap seals protect the interior of the bearing from the ingress of dust and foreign particles. As the sheet metal discs do not come into contact with the rotating rings, they do not generate any additional friction or heat compared with rubber seals.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard dimension. This is important if the inner ring expands due to frictional heat or tight fits on the shaft. Thanks to the increased radial clearance, the rolling elements do not jam, even under thermal stress.
The manufacturer specifies the permissible temperature range as -20 to +120 degrees. The combination of standard 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel, a sheet steel cage and sheet metal end plates is specifically designed for this temperature range and enables reliable operation in thermally demanding environments.
This roller bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 (corresponding to standard tolerance PN or ABEC 1). This class defines precise limit dimensions for the bore, outer diameter and radial runout, which facilitates dimensionally accurate mounting on the shaft and in the housing seat.
The bearing is fitted with a high-precision sheet steel cage. This type of cage is characterised by its low weight combined with high mechanical strength. It keeps the balls at a uniform distance within the deep raceways, which promotes smooth and low-vibration operation of the shaft.
