The FAG 16101 deep-groove ball bearing is an open, single-row radial ball bearing with dimensions of 12 × 30 × 8 mm, designed for a wide range of industrial applications.
The single-row deep-groove ball bearing 16101 primarily accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. Manufactured from standard rolling bearing steel 100Cr6, this rolling bearing is characterised by the high dimensional stability of its raceways and rolling elements. The open unit is manufactured by FAG and features a sheet steel cage that guides the balls evenly. With a bore of 12 mm, an outside diameter of 30 mm and a width of 8 mm, its compact design is suitable for applications with a protected mounting space.
This rolling bearing is used to guide rotating shafts under predominantly radial loads in compact mechanical assemblies. As the 16101 deep groove ball bearing is an open type, it is suitable for installation locations with an external sealing system or for environments in an oil bath. The bearing operates within a temperature range of –20 to +150 degrees Celsius. This allows it to be used in industrial drives where a continuous supply of lubricant is provided via the surrounding housing.
In the design, the standard radial bearing clearance, in conjunction with the standard tolerance class (P0/PN or ABEC 1), plays a key role in ensuring operational reliability. Under normal fit conditions and at moderate operating temperatures, this standard clearance provides a balanced operating clearance. As the bearing has no integrated sealing discs, there is no friction caused by sealing lips coming into contact. However, the open design requires clean installation conditions and a reliable supply of lubricant to ensure that foreign particles do not interfere with the rolling contact.
The 16101 deep-groove ball bearing has an inside diameter of 12 mm, an outside diameter of 30 mm and a width of 8 mm. The outer ring has neither a groove nor a flange, which means the component can be easily fitted into a cylindrical housing bore.
An open design means that the bearing is supplied ex-works without either cover plates or sealing plates. The rolling elements and the sheet steel cage are exposed. This allows lubricating oil or grease to circulate freely within the housing system. At the same time, the bearing location must be protected against the ingress of foreign particles by means of external sealing elements.
The designations P0, PN and ABEC 1 denote the standard tolerance class in roller bearing manufacture. They define the permissible deviations in terms of dimensional, geometric and running accuracy of the inner and outer rings in accordance with current industry standards. For most drives and standard machines, this class offers practical concentricity whilst ensuring cost-effective production.
The sheet steel cage maintains a uniform spacing between the rolling elements and prevents the balls from coming into contact with one another during operation. This reduces friction and heat build-up during rotation. Sheet steel cages are lightweight, take up little space inside the bearing and can withstand operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +150 degrees Celsius.
As a single-row radial ball bearing, the 16101 deep-groove ball bearing primarily absorbs radial forces perpendicular to the shaft axis. Owing to the deep grooves in the inner and outer rings, the bearing can also transmit axial forces in both directions. For predominantly axial loads, however, special axial or angular contact bearing designs are intended.
The permissible temperature range for this component is from -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. Made from fully hardened standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, the material retains its strength and dimensional stability within this range. When selecting the lubricant for the unit, the actual operating temperature should be taken into account.
