The FAG 6308 -MA-C3 single-row deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 40x90x23 mm, features a solid brass cage with external guidance and a slightly increased C3 clearance.
The FAG 6308 -MA-C3 deep groove ball bearing is an open, single-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6). It primarily accommodates radial loads and can also guide the shaft under axial forces in both directions. The design, which has no flange or ring groove on the outer ring, complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. The open design allows for direct lubrication via the surrounding unit.
This radial ball bearing is suitable for rotating shafts and bearing locations where significant operating heat or tight fits occur. With a specified temperature range of –30 to +120 degrees, the bearing is designed for a wide variety of industrial environments. As no integrated sealing washers are fitted, it is typically used in enclosed housings with an external lubrication circuit, in which oil or housing grease circulates freely around the rolling elements.
The -MA designation refers to a solid brass cage that is guided on the outer ring. This design ensures the balls remain dimensionally stable and produce minimal vibration, even under high acceleration or fluctuating speeds. In addition, the slightly increased radial clearance (C3) compensates for thermal expansion of the shaft and inner ring during operation. In the case of tight fits or temperature differences between the inner and outer rings, the increased radial clearance prevents the rolling elements from becoming jammed.
The bearing has a bore of 40 mm, an outside diameter of 90 mm and a width of 23 mm. These standardised key dimensions allow for direct installation on suitable shaft seats and in housing bores in accordance with standard fit specifications.
The designation MA refers to a solid brass cage that is guided externally. The guidance is provided by the flanges of the outer ring. This ensures precise guidance of the rolling elements and provides the cage with stability in the event of severe vibrations or fluctuations in rotational speed.
The C3 bearing clearance is above the normal range and provides greater radial clearance when the bearing is unmounted. This ensures that sufficient operating clearance is maintained even after the bearing has been pressed onto the shaft and during operational heating, allowing the rolling elements to roll freely.
As the bearing is supplied from the factory without sealing washers, external housing seals such as shaft seals or labyrinth seals must prevent the ingress of dirt and moisture. The open design also allows it to be integrated into existing oil or grease lubrication systems.
The 6308 -MA-C3 deep-groove ball bearing is specified for an operating temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees. Within these limits, the rings made from 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel and the brass cage retain their dimensional stability and strength.
The bearing complies with tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to the ABEC 1 standard. This standard tolerance meets the usual industrial requirements for concentricity and dimensional accuracy of bores and outer diameters in general mechanical engineering.
