The SKF 6013/C3 deep-groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 65x100x18 mm, an open design and C3 clearance, offers high running accuracy for rotating shafts.
The SKF 6013/C3 single-row deep groove ball bearing is a radial rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel 100Cr6. In the Explorer version, this model combines compact dimensions with precise manufacture to tolerance class P6 or ABEC 3. As the bearing has an open design, the lubricant from the surrounding assembly reaches the rolling elements and raceways unhindered. The sheet steel cage maintains an even spacing between the balls and ensures smooth running at operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +150 degrees.
The 6013 /C3 deep groove ball bearing primarily accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. The open design is preferably used in enclosed assemblies where centralised oil or grease lubrication is provided. Thanks to the increased C3 bearing clearance, the bearing remains reliable even when temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings or when tight fits lead to radial expansion. The absence of sealing washers minimises friction losses at higher speeds.
The C3 rating indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with standard clearance. When the shaft heats up and expands during operation, this additional clearance helps to prevent the rolling elements from becoming jammed in the raceways. In combination with the tight manufacturing tolerance to P6, the bearing operates with low vibration and maintains dimensional stability. When designing the application, it should be noted that the open design requires a clean installation environment and a suitable lubrication concept, as dirt particles can penetrate the interior unhindered.
With an internal diameter of 65 mm, an external diameter of 100 mm and a width of 18 mm, the component complies with standardised key dimensions. The cylindrical outer ring is designed without a flange or circumferential groove, so that the bearing can be fitted flush into a suitable housing bore.
The designation C3 indicates a larger radial clearance in the radial bearing than the standard. In the initial state, there is more radial clearance between the balls and the grooves. This is advantageous when tight fits cause the inner ring to expand or when high operating temperatures lead to thermal expansion of the shaft.
The open design, which does not require cover plates or sealing discs, allows direct exchange with the lubricant in the surrounding system, such as in the oil bath of a gearbox. Furthermore, there is no frictional resistance caused by sealing lips coming into contact, which reduces heat build-up. Use of this design requires a housing construction that is protected against contamination.
The P6 or ABEC 3 classification specifies tighter dimensional and running tolerances than the standard tolerance. The bearing is characterised by higher concentricity on both the inner and outer rings. This results in lower vibrations and is recommended for drives with increased requirements for guidance accuracy.
The bearing, made from standard roller bearing steel with a sheet steel cage, is designed for a temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees. Within these limits, the materials retain their dimensional stability. To ensure reliable operation, the selected lubricant must also be approved for the relevant operating temperature.
Both the rings and the rolling elements are made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. This material withstands high compressive stresses under rolling loads. The cage is made of sheet steel, which guides the rolling elements and is suitable for varying operating temperatures.
