The FAG 6008 -2Z-C3 single-row deep groove ball bearing (40x68x15 mm) features sheet metal end shields on both sides and an increased C3 radial clearance, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial applications.
The 6008 -2Z-C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing to Normal tolerance class (P0/PN or ABEC 1) made from standard rolling bearing steel 100Cr6. FAG manufactures this version with a bore of 40 mm, an outer diameter of 68 mm and a width of 15 mm. Thanks to the cover on both sides with non-contacting sheet metal shields (2Z), the design protects the bearing interior from coarse dirt particles. This version is suitable for combined loads with a predominantly radial component in industrial drive trains.
This bearing accommodates radial forces as well as axial forces in both directions. The design is particularly suitable for rotating shafts subject to combined loads and with increased speed requirements. The cylindrical outer ring without a groove fits precisely into standardised housing bores. As the gap seals operate without contact, there are no additional friction losses at the sealing surfaces. This is beneficial for applications involving higher speeds.
The suffix C3 indicates increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This clearance compensates for operational thermal expansion or tight fits on the shaft and housing without the rolling elements becoming jammed. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements across the permissible temperature range of –30 to +120 degrees Celsius. The cover plates on both sides retain the lubricant within the bearing and reduce the ingress of solid foreign particles.
With a bore of 40 mm, an outside diameter of 68 mm and a width of 15 mm, the bearing complies with the standardised dimensions of the 6008 series. In the design of the connecting components, the cylindrical outer ring – without a flange or ring groove – serves as a precise guide in the housing seat.
The designation C3 indicates an increased internal radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This additional bearing clearance helps to prevent the balls from becoming jammed if the inner and outer rings heat up to different degrees during operation, or if tight fit dimensions reduce the radial bearing clearance after installation.
The steel sheet cover plates on both sides form a non-contact gap seal with the inner ring. They keep out solid contaminants and dust without generating friction or additional heat at the sealing surfaces. This makes this seal variant suitable for high rotational speeds and protects the internal lubricant fill from escaping.
The permissible operating range is between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. The combination of standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, the dimensionally stable sheet steel cage and the metal end plates remains mechanically stable within this temperature range. Applications outside this range require specific materials or lubricants.
The 6008 -2Z-C3 deep-groove ball bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance P0 or PN, which corresponds to the international ABEC 1 classification. This standard precision meets the typical requirements of general mechanical engineering. The dimensional and geometric accuracy ensures low-vibration operation on precisely machined shafts.
The sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly along the raceway whilst being lightweight itself. It is characterised by dimensional stability and thermal resistance, and is fully compatible with standard industrial lubricants. Furthermore, the sheet metal construction takes up very little space inside the bearing, which benefits the lubricant volume.
