FAG 6220 deep-groove ball bearing, dimensions 100 × 180 × 34 mm: open, single-row rolling bearing made from 100Cr6 steel for radial and axial loads.
As a single-row rolling bearing, the FAG 6220 deep groove ball bearing primarily absorbs radial loads whilst also guiding shafts in the axial direction. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, the design – with a bore diameter of 100 mm, an outer diameter of 180 mm and a width of 34 mm – provides a solid basis for continuous industrial use. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly into the deep raceways of the inner and outer rings. The design complies with tolerance class P0 (PN or ABEC 1) with normal radial clearance.
Due to its dimensions and design, the bearing is suitable for shaft mountings and general machine designs with rotating components. As it is an open design without integrated seals, the bearing can be integrated directly into lubricated housing circuits. Designs with an external lubricant supply benefit from unimpeded lubricant flow. For environments subject to thermal stress, the rolling-bearing steel covers a permissible operating range of –20 to +150 degrees Celsius.
The open design, without abiding sealing elements, minimises friction and promotes smooth running of the rolling elements. Maintenance concepts can supply lubricants flexibly in accordance with operational specifications or integrate the bearing into existing lubrication systems. During installation, care must be taken to ensure that the surrounding housing is protected from dirt and moisture, as the design does not feature any factory-fitted sealing elements. The standard radial bearing clearance helps to maintain the correct bearing clearance under normal operating conditions.
With a bore diameter of 100 mm, an outside diameter of 180 mm and a width of 34 mm, this roller bearing has standardised dimensions. The outer ring is cylindrical with no groove or flange, which facilitates installation in standardised housing bores.
Without integrated sealing washers, there are no friction losses caused by rubbing sealing lips. This allows lubricating oil or grease to be replaced directly within enclosed machine housings. The user selects the type of lubrication themselves, tailored to the specific application.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +150 degrees Celsius. The components made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 and the dimensionally stable sheet steel cage retain their dimensions and properties within this temperature range. The actual temperature limit also depends on the lubricant selected.
The designation P0 or ABEC 1 refers to the standard tolerance class for standard roller bearings. It defines the permissible deviations in dimensional, geometric and running accuracy for the inner and outer rings. This precision class meets the requirements of most industrial machinery and drive systems.
The specified radial clearance refers to the theoretical clearance between the rolling elements and the inner and outer rings when the bearing is in its unassembled state. Once fitted onto the shaft and into the housing, this clearance is reduced due to the fit conditions. The standard clearance helps to ensure that the bearing continues to run smoothly during operation.
Both the raceways and the rolling elements are made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. This material withstands high compressive stresses during rolling contact. The balls are guided by a sheet-steel cage, which directs lubricant to the contact surfaces.
