The SKF 6014 M single-row deep groove ball bearing, with a 70 mm bore, brass cage and tolerance class P6, offers precise running characteristics for demanding industrial applications.
The 6014 M deep groove ball bearing is an open, single-row radial ball bearing designed primarily to support radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. With key dimensions of a 70 mm bore, 110 mm outside diameter and 20 mm width, this SKF Explorer performance class design is suitable for medium to heavy-duty shaft mountings. Manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6), the bearing is characterised by high dimensional stability and improved running accuracy to tolerance class P6 (ABEC 3).
The component is primarily used in industrial and mechanical engineering applications that require low-vibration operation and precise shaft guidance at higher speeds. As this is an unsealed bearing without integrated cover or sealing rings, it is usually fitted in enclosed housings with external sealing and lubrication. The permissible operating temperature range is between –20 and +150 degrees Celsius, covering a wide range of thermal requirements.
The suffix ‘M’ indicates a solid brass cage for guiding the rolling elements. Brass is characterised by favourable friction properties as well as mechanical stability under acceleration and shock loads. Together with the standard radial bearing clearance and tolerance class P6, this design ensures smooth concentricity. As open bearings are supplied without factory-applied grease, the choice of lubricant and initial lubrication are application-specific and carried out during installation.
With an internal diameter of 70 mm, an external diameter of 110 mm and a width of 20 mm, this roller bearing complies with specified standard dimensions. This standardised geometry allows for integration into corresponding housing designs as well as the direct replacement of bearings of the same dimensions.
The abbreviation ‘M’ stands for a solid brass cage used to guide the rolling elements. Brass cages offer high strength and are suitable for applications subject to vibration or thermal stresses. The material exhibits favourable friction characteristics and guides the rolling elements reliably during operation.
Tolerance class P6, comparable to ABEC 3, defines tighter manufacturing tolerances in terms of dimensional, geometric and running accuracy than the basic standard. This contributes to consistent concentricity and precise guidance of high-speed shafts.
Open roller bearings do not have integrated seals at their ends. They allow lubricating oil or grease from external lubrication systems to pass through directly and have a low internal friction torque. In this design, protection against contamination and lubricant loss is provided by the surrounding housing.
The permissible temperature range for this bearing is from -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. Both the standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and the brass cage are designed to withstand these thermal conditions. During operation, attention must also be paid to the temperature resistance of the lubricant used.
This model is designed with standard radial bearing clearance. This design is suitable for standard fit combinations on the shaft and housing, as well as for normal temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. Once fitted, the specified operating clearance remains to guide the rolling elements.
