The FAG 6212 -2Z-C4 deep groove ball bearing (60x110x22 mm) features non-contacting end shields and increased C4 bearing clearance for industrial applications subject to thermal stress.
The 6212 -2Z-C4 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing made from standard rolling-element bearing steel 100Cr6, with dimensions of 60x110x22 mm. Fitted with sheet metal end shields on both sides and a robust sheet steel cage, this design primarily accommodates radial forces as well as moderate axial loads. The standard tolerance P0/PN ensures a precise fit in housings and on shafts. The design is rated for a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
Designs involving significant heat generation or high speeds often lead to thermal expansion of the shaft. The significantly increased C4 bearing clearance compensates for temperature differences between the inner and outer rings, ensuring that the rolling elements remain free to move. As the non-contacting 2Z cover plates do not generate any additional friction, operational heating remains low. The bearing is suitable for operating conditions with moderate dust exposure, where smooth running is a priority.
The C4 designation indicates a significantly increased radial clearance in the as-supplied condition compared with standard clearance. This variant is recommended when tight fits on the shaft or housing reduce the bearing clearance during installation. Even in the event of significant temperature variations during operation, the increased radial clearance helps to prevent the bearing from becoming stressed. Conversely, for operating conditions where temperatures remain low without significant heating, a smaller radial clearance is often more appropriate.
With an internal diameter of 60 mm, an external diameter of 110 mm and a width of 22 mm, this design complies with the standardised metric size series. The external contour is designed as a cylindrical outer ring without a flange or circumferential groove, which facilitates installation in standard housing bores.
The designation 2Z refers to cover plates made of profiled sheet steel, fitted on both sides. These non-contact gap seals keep coarse dirt particles and foreign matter out of the bearing interior. As there is no sliding contact between the seal disc and the inner ring, no additional frictional resistance is generated during operation, which facilitates high rotational speeds.
A significantly increased radial clearance to C4 is selected when there are marked temperature differences between the shaft and the housing, or when tight fits reduce the operating clearance after installation. The additional clearance helps to reliably prevent the rolling elements from seizing up due to thermal expansion.
The specified operating temperature range is from -30 to +120 degrees. Within these limits, the components made from 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel, the sheet steel cage and the end plates retain their dimensional stability and mechanical strength. For applications outside this range, special heat- or cold-resistant versions are required.
Tolerance class P0 (also referred to as PN or ABEC 1) defines the standard dimensional and running accuracy for deep-groove ball bearings in accordance with industry standards. It specifies limit dimensions for the bore, outer diameter and concentricity. This level of precision ensures a precise fit on industrially manufactured shafts and in corresponding housing bores.
