The SKF 6224 deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 120 × 215 × 40 mm, withstands high radial loads whilst featuring a compact, open design.
The SKF 6224 single-row deep groove ball bearing is designed to support rotating shafts under predominantly radial loads. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, this bearing offers high dimensional stability under load. The robust sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly into the deep raceways. As this design is constructed without sealing washers, it is particularly suitable for assemblies with their own external lubrication supply.
The bearing reliably supports shafts with a diameter of 120 mm, primarily under radial load profiles. Due to its design, the deep groove geometry accommodates not only high radial forces but also moderate axial forces in both directions. This opens up a wide range of mounting options in industrial applications involving combined force transmission.
With a temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees, the component covers standard operating conditions in industrial environments. As the outer ring is cylindrical and has no flange or groove, the bearing can be fitted directly into smooth housing bores.
The open design without sealing lips reduces the friction torque to the physical minimum. This results in lower friction losses at higher speeds. The bearing is usually integrated directly into enclosed housings with oil bath or recirculating lubrication, allowing the lubricant to dissipate heat and remove particles unimpeded.
Designed with standard radial bearing clearance and tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), the bearing complies with current industry standards. The fit specifications for the shaft and housing bore are based on standardised basic tolerance grades. An external housing seal provides protection against contamination.
With a bore of 120 mm, an outer diameter of 215 mm and a width of 40 mm, the bearing requires a standardised mounting space on the shaft. Thanks to these ISO-compliant dimensions, this design is equally suitable for new constructions and for straightforward replacement during maintenance work.
This bearing specification defines the radial clearance between the outer ring, the balls and the inner ring when the bearing is unassembled. The standard design is compatible with common fit selections for the shaft and housing, ensuring that, following the press-fit process, a suitable operating clearance is maintained to ensure low-vibration operation.
Without integrated seals, frictional contact between the rings is completely eliminated. This design is primarily used in separately sealed housings with an oil circulation or grease supply. The lubricant can circulate freely around the raceways and effectively dissipate heat.
Both the solid rings and the balls are made from fully hardened standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. The material can withstand high contact pressures and exhibits excellent dimensional stability. A precisely stamped cage made of sheet steel ensures the precise guidance of the rolling elements.
The material structure remains dimensionally stable between -20 and +120 degrees. During the design phase, care must be taken to ensure that the selected lubricant is suitable for operation within these temperature limits and that any external housing seals can withstand the thermal conditions.
With a tolerance class of P0, this version complies with the standardised dimensional and concentricity tolerances set out in ISO specifications, comparable to ABEC 1. This ensures that the bore, outer diameter and axial run-out are manufactured to the required dimensions for standard industrial precision requirements.
