The FAG 6013-C3 deep-groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 65 × 100 × 18 mm and increased radial clearance, ensures stable operation under thermal stress.
The 6013-C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing from FAG, manufactured from standard bearing steel 100Cr6. As an open design without sealing washers, this model allows for direct lubrication via the surrounding machinery. It is manufactured to tolerance class P0 (PN or ABEC 1). A guided sheet steel cage maintains the rolling elements at a uniform distance and ensures stable concentricity under purely radial as well as combined loads.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians select this design for shaft mountings where radial forces predominate whilst moderate axial forces in both directions are also accommodated. As the bearing is of an open design, it is preferably used in enclosed gearbox housings, oil-lubricated drives or industrial plant where the environment is already protected against contamination. The permissible operating temperature range is from –20 to +150 degrees Celsius.
The C3 designation indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This increased clearance between the balls and raceways is crucial when fits on the shaft or housing restrict the bearing clearance. Similarly, the C3 clearance compensates for thermal expansion when the inner ring becomes warmer than the outer ring during operation. This ensures that the rolling elements continue to move freely even when subjected to operational heating.
This roller bearing has an inside diameter of 65 mm, an outside diameter of 100 mm and a width of 18 mm. The cylindrical outer ring has no flanges or grooves. With these dimensions, the component complies with the standard size series for single-row radial ball bearings of this size.
The suffix C3 indicates a radial bearing clearance that exceeds the standard specification. This additional operating clearance counteracts any straining of the rolling elements should tight fits cause the inner ring to expand or should temperature differences arise between the shaft and the housing. The bearing is therefore suitable for applications involving significant heat generation.
Open roller bearings have neither cover seals nor contact seals. This design promotes low friction torque and allows lubricants such as gear oil or externally supplied grease to gain direct access to the raceways. Their use requires that the surrounding housing prevents the ingress of dirt and moisture.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -20 and +150 degrees Celsius. The dimensional stability of the standard rolling-element bearing steel 100Cr6 and the sheet steel cage are designed to withstand this temperature range. When designing the system, users simply need to ensure that the lubricant used is approved for the relevant operating temperatures.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance P0 (equivalent to PN and ABEC 1). This precision class fully meets the requirements of general mechanical and plant engineering. It allows for cost-effective manufacture of the bearing seats on the shaft and housing, whilst ensuring reliable running accuracy of the rolling elements.
Single-row deep-groove ball bearings are primarily designed to withstand radial forces acting perpendicular to the shaft axis. However, due to the deep grooves in the inner and outer rings, they also transmit axial forces in both directions. They are therefore used in many machine designs to act simultaneously as both fixed and floating bearings.
