Single-row SKF deep groove ball bearing 6040 M/C3 with brass cage, C3 clearance and dimensions of 200 × 310 × 51 mm for demanding radial loads in industrial machinery.
The SKF 6040 M/C3 deep groove ball bearing is an open, single-row rolling bearing designed for demanding industrial drives. Constructed from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel, it withstands high radial loads as well as axial forces in both directions. Thanks to its precise raceways and robust internal structure, the bearing operates with low vibration and smooth running. Typical applications include heavy-duty gearboxes and general heavy machinery manufacturing.
The bearing is designed to withstand high mechanical stresses in large drives and gearbox designs. With an outer diameter of 310 mm and a bore of 200 mm, the component guides heavy shafts with precision. The open design allows for lubrication via existing oil circuits or direct grease relubrication within the housing. This ensures that the bearing assembly remains thermally stable even during continuous operation.
The designation ‘M’ stands for a brass cage, which reliably guides the rolling elements even in the presence of vibrations and rapid changes in speed. The slightly increased radial clearance (C3) compensates for operational heating or tight fits. If the shaft expands thermally during operation, the increased bearing clearance helps to prevent stress on the rolling elements. This ensures smooth running at operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +150 degrees.
With an internal bore of 200 mm, an external diameter of 310 mm and a width of 51 mm, the bearing has standard dimensions. The outer ring is cylindrical, with no flange or groove. Before assembly, the fit dimensions of the shaft and the housing should be precisely matched.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance between the balls and the raceway compensates for thermal expansion when the bearing heats up, as well as for deflection. This ensures that the bearing continues to run smoothly even under thermal stress.
The suffix ‘M’ indicates the version with a brass cage. Brass offers high strength and good emergency running properties under demanding operating conditions. The cage guides the rolling elements evenly along the raceways and effectively dampens any vibrations that may occur.
Open roller bearings do not have integrated seals, in order to ensure the unimpeded flow of lubricant in externally sealed housings. The lubricant from the oil circulation system or housing bath can dissipate heat unimpeded and minimise friction at the contact surfaces.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -20 to +150 degrees. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, the components retain their dimensional stability within this range. The lubricant used should always be suited to the temperatures encountered during operation.
The bearing complies with tolerance class P0 or PN, which is comparable to ABEC 1. This standard tolerance is sufficient for the vast majority of industrial mechanical engineering applications. It allows for a precise fit when mounting on shafts and in bores in accordance with standard fit guidelines.
