The FAG 6216 single-row deep groove ball bearing, measuring 80 × 140 × 26 mm, is suitable for radial and axial loads in mechanical engineering.
The 6216 deep-groove ball bearing is an open rolling bearing in a single-row design to tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1). Manufactured from 100Cr6 standard roller bearing steel, this design accommodates radial loads as well as axial forces in both directions. Thanks to the robust sheet steel cage and the absence of integrated seals, the design allows for high speeds with free lubricant circulation. It is primarily installed in applications where external sealing is provided by the surrounding housing.
Designs with an 80 mm shaft diameter primarily use this type in bearing arrangements that must accommodate combined radial and axial forces. As the design is open at both ends, the lubricant reaches the raceways and balls unhindered. This makes it suitable for use in enclosed housing systems with an oil bath or grease. The permissible temperature range is from –20 to +150 degrees Celsius.
The housing design plays a crucial role in the design of the bearing arrangement. As the 6216 deep-groove ball bearing does not have integrated sealing washers, external seals must prevent the ingress of dirt and moisture. This version has standard radial bearing clearance. When installing, take into account the fit dimensions of the shaft (80 mm) and the housing (140 mm) to maintain the required operating clearance during operation.
With a bore of 80 mm, an outside diameter of 140 mm and a width of 26 mm, the roller bearing fits onto corresponding cylindrical shaft seats and into standardised housing bores in industrial plant engineering. The internal dimension corresponds exactly to standard shaft fits.
An open design does not require sealing or cover plates, thereby eliminating any additional friction caused by the seal. The bearing is primarily used in enclosed assemblies where lubricating oil or grease is supplied via the housing. The lubricant circulates freely, which also aids heat dissipation during operation.
The factory-set radial clearance between the balls and the raceways when the bearing is unmounted is referred to as normal radial bearing clearance. This basic clearance ensures that, once fitted onto the shaft and housing, and when subjected to operational heat, the bearing can rotate freely without incurring excessive stress.
This FAG roller bearing is designed for an operating temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. Both the sheet steel cage and the rings and rolling elements, made from fully hardened 100Cr6 bearing steel, retain their dimensional stability within this temperature range. The temperature resistance of the lubricant used is also a key factor in determining its suitability for use.
Single-row deep-groove ball bearings are primarily designed to support high radial loads perpendicular to the shaft. Thanks to the deep grooves in the inner and outer rings, they also transmit axial loads in both directions. Designs therefore frequently utilise this type as a combined fixed or floating bearing for guiding rotating shafts.
The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements at a uniform distance along the raceway and is characterised by its low weight and mechanical strength. It is suitable for standard applications at typical speeds and is compatible with all common lubricating oils and greases.
