The SKF 6011 -2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing, measuring 55x90x18 mm and featuring sheet metal end shields on both sides and a C3 clearance, offers low-friction operation in high-speed applications.
The 6011 -2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing in the SKF Explorer series, made from standard 100Cr6 rolling-element steel. It primarily accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. The version with a 55 mm bore, 90 mm outer diameter and 18 mm width features a robust sheet steel cage. Thanks to the increased C3 clearance, this model is suitable for applications involving operational heating or tight fits.
This rolling bearing is typically used in industrial shaft mountings and rotating machine drives. The 6011 -2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing performs particularly well where shafts with a 55 mm diameter rotate at medium to high speeds. The non-contacting cover plates keep the friction torque low, whilst keeping coarse dirt particles out of the bearing interior. Manufacture to tolerance class P6 also ensures high running accuracy.
The sheet metal covers on both sides (2Z) protect the raceways from dust ingress without generating additional sliding friction. At the same time, the increased radial bearing clearance (C3) provides a reliable operational buffer: If the inner and outer rings heat up to different degrees during continuous operation, or if tight shaft fits restrict the bearing clearance, the C3 classification counteracts any straining of the rolling elements. This contributes to smooth running and predictable service life.
With an internal diameter of 55 mm, an external diameter of 90 mm and a width of 18 mm, the bearing complies with standard dimensions. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove, which allows for direct mounting in standard-compliant housing and shaft seats.
The designation 2Z refers to cover discs made of profiled sheet steel fitted on both sides. These discs form a non-contact sealing gap with the inner ring. They retain dust and solid foreign particles; however, unlike abrasive rubber seals, they do not cause any additional frictional resistance, which facilitates higher rotational speeds.
The designation C3 indicates a radial bearing clearance greater than the standard bearing clearance. This clearance is required when press-fit connections on the shaft expand the inner ring or when temperature differences arise between the inner and outer rings during operation. This ensures that the rolling elements always retain the necessary freedom of movement.
The permissible operating temperature range for this deep-groove ball bearing is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. The roller bearing steel, the integrated sheet steel cage and the metal end plates are all designed for this thermal operating range in industrial plants.
Tolerance class P6 (comparable to ABEC 3) denotes a higher level of manufacturing precision than the P0 standard with regard to dimensional, form and running deviations. Bearings of this precision class exhibit improved concentricity. They are therefore particularly suitable for more sophisticated drive systems with higher requirements for low noise and vibration levels.
