The FAG 16044 -C3 deep-groove ball bearing, with a 220 mm bore and increased bearing clearance, is designed for mounting on large shaft diameters.
The single-row deep groove ball bearing 16044 -C3 is designed as an open rolling bearing without sealing washers. The rings and rolling elements are made of standard rolling-bearing steel (100Cr6) and are guided by a sheet steel cage. Thanks to the compact design of the 160 series, this component requires comparatively little radial installation space, with an outer diameter of 340 mm and a width of 37 mm. The bearing is manufactured by FAG Wälzlager and complies with standard tolerance P0/PN or ABEC 1.
This rolling bearing is primarily designed to accommodate high radial forces in conjunction with moderate axial forces in both directions. Typical applications are found primarily in bearing arrangements with large shaft diameters of 220 mm, where radial loads predominate. The open design allows for lubrication via the surrounding housing system, for example through oil circulation systems or manually applied grease within a protected assembly.
The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This feature helps to ensure that the internal operating clearance is not reduced to an impermissible level when tight fits on the shaft or housing cause the inner ring to expand. Similarly, the increased bearing clearance compensates for operational temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. The component is designed for a temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees Celsius.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 220 mm, an external diameter of 340 mm and a width of 37 mm. These dimensions correspond to the narrow metric 160 series, which is characterised by a space-saving cross-section.
The designation C3 indicates an increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance helps to ensure that the bearing does not run under stress, even in the case of tight fits or temperature-dependent thermal expansion of the rings.
As this component is manufactured without integrated seals, it must be lubricated externally. Depending on the system design, the bearing can be lubricated with grease or via an existing oil circuit. A clean environment around the housing protects against the ingress of dirt.
The component is designed for operating temperatures between -20 and +150 degrees Celsius. Both the standard roller bearing steel and the sheet steel cage retain their mechanical stability within this temperature range.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 (also referred to as PN), which corresponds internationally to the ABEC 1 classification. This tolerance class meets the usual accuracy requirements in industrial mechanical engineering and plant operation.
In this single-row deep-groove ball bearing, a sheet steel cage keeps the rolling elements at a uniform distance apart. This cage material combines low weight with strength for standard industrial applications without the need for additional electrical insulation.
