The SKF 4205 ATN9 deep-groove ball bearing is a double-row bearing measuring 25x52x18 mm, offering high radial load-carrying capacity in a compact design.
The SKF 4205 ATN9 deep groove ball bearing is a double-row bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) with a 25 mm bore, 52 mm outer diameter and 18 mm width. Thanks to the two rows of balls, this design can accommodate high radial forces as well as axial forces on both sides, whilst the axial installation space remains narrow. Fitted with a polyamide cage and standard radial clearance, the bearing is suitable for a wide range of industrial applications. As an open variant, it can be integrated directly into existing oil or grease lubrication systems.
The use of this double-row bearing is particularly recommended where the axial installation space is limited, but single-row designs are insufficient to handle the radial load. Typical applications can be found in general mechanical engineering and in industrial drives subject to combined loads. As this is an open bearing without a flange or groove, the lubricant is supplied via the surrounding housing. The permissible temperature range extends from –20 to +120 degrees and covers standard operating conditions in continuous industrial use.
The suffix ATN9 denotes the lightweight polyamide cage, which guides the rolling elements precisely and ensures quiet running. The low weight of the cage material reduces inertial forces during rapid speed changes. Due to its design, the open version has no integrated seals, allowing lubricants to circulate freely. At the same time, an external housing seal protects the bearing assembly from dirt and moisture, enabling the full service life to be utilised within the P0/PN (ABEC 1) tolerance range.
The roller bearing has an inside diameter of 25 mm, an outside diameter of 52 mm and a width of 18 mm. These dimensions correspond to the standardised main dimensions of this double-row bearing. Thanks to the cylindrical outer ring without a flange, the component can be fitted flush into cylindrical housing bores.
The designation ATN9 refers to the polyamide cage design. This material is characterised by high elasticity and low friction on the rolling elements. The cage guides the balls evenly along both raceways and ensures smooth running within a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees.
Double-row deep-groove ball bearings have two parallel rows of balls in the inner and outer rings. They offer a higher radial load-carrying capacity than single-row bearings for the same shaft diameter, whilst the outer ring is only slightly wider. This enables them to accommodate combined radial and axial loads in compact designs.
As the bearing is of an open design and has no integrated sealing washers, it is lubricated externally with grease or oil. The lubricant penetrates unhindered between the rows of balls and the polyamide cage. Before operation, ensure that sufficient initial lubrication is applied and that the housing is suitably sealed against contamination.
This bearing is manufactured with a standard radial clearance and complies with tolerance class P0 or PN (comparable to ABEC 1). This design is suitable for standard fits on the shaft and in the housing under normal operating conditions, where thermal expansion does not exceed +120 degrees.
The inner and outer rings, as well as the balls, are made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). This case-hardened chrome steel offers high dimensional stability under load and ensures uniform force transmission during rolling contact. In combination with the polyamide cage, this creates a durable unit for demanding mechanical drives.
