The SKF 6201-Z deep groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 12x32x10 mm and a single-sided cover plate, provides protection for compact shaft designs.
The 6201-Z deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing made from standard rolling-element steel (100Cr6) with a bore of 12 mm, an outside diameter of 32 mm and a width of 10 mm. This bearing, which belongs to the SKF Explorer performance class, is characterised by a single-sided sheet metal cover and tight manufacturing tolerances. It primarily accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. Design engineers and maintenance personnel use this design primarily where one side of the housing is already sealed and the lubricant needs to be retained within the bearing.
The 6201-Z deep groove ball bearing is designed for compact rotating assemblies with a 12 mm shaft diameter. It is primarily used in designs where one side of the bearing is protected by the machine housing, whilst the cover shield protects the open side from particle ingress.
With its sheet steel cage and suitability for a temperature range of –20 to +150 degrees, this rolling bearing is suitable for a wide range of industrial rotary applications. When filled with grease, the Z-ring helps to retain the lubricant within the rolling element chamber.
Choose this variant if your design requires a gap-covered, non-contact shielding arrangement without additional friction losses. The single-sided sheet metal cover protects against coarse particles but, unlike sliding seals, does not generate any frictional torque at the sealing lip.
In addition, the tolerance class with P6 dimensional accuracy and P5 running accuracy ensures precise guidance of the rotating shaft. In conjunction with the standard radial bearing clearance, the bearing offers smooth running characteristics for demanding series production applications and repairs, provided it is fitted correctly.
This single-row deep-groove ball bearing has an inner diameter (bore) of 12 mm, an outer diameter of 32 mm and a width of 10 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical, without a flange or groove. These standardised key dimensions enable precise fitting onto corresponding 12 mm shafts in standardised housing bores.
The suffix ‘Z’ denotes a cover plate made of profiled sheet steel, fitted on one side. The cover forms a tight sealing gap with the inner ring, runs without contact and therefore causes no additional friction. It retains lubricant inside the bearing and protects the rolling elements from coarse dirt particles from the covered side.
This design features standard radial bearing clearance (standard). This internal bearing clearance is designed for standard fit combinations and normal operating temperatures without extreme thermal expansion. The clearance compensates for the slight constriction that occurs when the inner ring is pressed onto the shaft under normal operating conditions.
This classification indicates a higher level of precision than the standard specification. Dimensional accuracy to P6 means tighter manufacturing tolerances for bore, outside diameter and width. Running accuracy to P5 describes a lower radial and axial run-out error of the rings, which promotes smooth and low-vibration operation of the shaft.
The permissible operating range is from -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. The components made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) and the heat-resistant sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability within this temperature range. When designing the lubrication system, care must be taken to ensure that the grease or lubricating oil used is suitable for the respective operating temperature.
The -Z variant has a sheet metal cover plate on one side only, whilst the opposite side remains open. This allows lubricant to be fed in or replaced directly via the open side. A 2Z version, on the other hand, is covered on both sides by sheet metal discs and is usually filled at the factory with grease for sealed assemblies.
