The FAG 6216 -Z-C3 deep groove ball bearing accommodates radial loads and, with dimensions of 80x140x26 mm, provides increased clearance to allow for thermal expansion.
The FAG 6216 -Z-C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing made from standard rolling bearing steel 100Cr6. The bearing has a bore of 80 mm, an outer diameter of 140 mm and a width of 26 mm. Designed primarily for radial forces, this bearing also accommodates moderate axial forces in both directions. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly into the deep raceways of the inner and outer rings.
This radial deep-groove ball bearing is primarily used in shaft mountings where temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation. Thanks to the C3 clearance, the component compensates for thermal expansion without the rolling elements becoming jammed. This design proves its worth where tight fits reduce internal clearance. The single-sided Z-cover protects the interior from coarse particles, whilst the open opposite side allows for a targeted supply of lubricant from the machine housing.
The suffix ‘Z’ denotes a cover plate made of profiled sheet metal that is pressed in on one side. This plate rotates without contact and does not cause any additional frictional torque on the shaft. The designation C3 indicates an increased radial bearing clearance in the as-supplied condition, i.e. greater internal clearance than in the standard P0 class. This ensures that the required rotational freedom is maintained after press-fitting onto the mating surfaces and during operational heating.
This radial ball bearing has an inner diameter of 80 mm for the shaft seat, an outer diameter of 140 mm for the housing bore and a mounting width of 26 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has no grooves or flanges.
The suffix C3 indicates a radially increased clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance between the balls and raceways prevents the bearing from seizing up when tight fits cause the inner ring to expand, or when operating heat causes the shaft to expand more than the surrounding housing.
The Z-deck disc is made of sheet steel and provides a gap-sealed cover for the bearing on one side. It keeps out dirt particles without generating heat through friction. The open rear side allows grease or lubricating oil to be applied directly to the raceway from inside the housing.
The raceways and rolling elements are made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. This material can withstand high contact pressures during rolling contact. A dimensionally stable cage made from pressed sheet steel is used to guide and separate the row of balls.
As a single-row radial ball bearing, this design is primarily intended for radial loads. Owing to the deep-grooved raceways, the component also absorbs axial forces acting on the shaft in both directions along the axis of rotation.
The bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1. This standard precision meets standard requirements in mechanical engineering and requires the bearing seat surfaces on the shaft and the housing bore to be correctly dimensioned.
