The SKF NU2208 ECP cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row idler bearing with a polyamide cage and main dimensions of 40 × 80 × 23 mm, designed for high radial loads.
The SKF NU2208 ECP cylindrical roller bearing, as a single-row radial roller bearing, withstands high forces. Thanks to the line contact between the cylindrical rollers and the raceways, the design enables the bearing to accommodate large radial loads during operation. As part of the SKF Explorer range, the bearing features an optimised internal design for even load distribution. The inner ring, which can be removed from both sides, facilitates both separate mounting and the selection of a specific fit for the shaft and housing.
This bearing is primarily used where high radial forces are present and axial length changes in the shaft need to be accommodated. The NU design functions as a pure idler bearing: the outer ring guides the roller set with two fixed flanges, whilst the flangeless inner ring can slide axially in both directions. Typical applications include bearing arrangements subject to thermal length changes or axial misalignment between the shaft and the housing structure. The permissible temperature range is from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The polyamide cage (designation suffix ECP) maintains an even spacing between the cylindrical rolling elements, reduces the guide’s own weight and promotes quiet running. In conjunction with the standard radial bearing clearance, the component is suitable for common operating temperatures and standard fit conditions. In terms of manufacturing accuracy, the design meets the dimensional tolerance P0 or ABEC 1 and combines this with increased running accuracy of tolerance class P6 or ABEC 3 to ensure smooth guidance of the shaft.
In the NU design, the outer ring has two fixed guide flanges, whilst the inner ring is manufactured without flanges. This allows the inner ring to be removed from both sides and moved axially relative to the outer ring. The component thus acts purely as a non-locating bearing to accommodate radial forces.
The bearing has an internal diameter (bore) of 40 mm, an external diameter of 80 mm and a width of 23 mm. These dimensions correspond to the standardised width and diameter series 22 for cylindrical roller bearings.
The abbreviation ECP stands for an optimised internal design and a polyamide cage. This type of cage is characterised by its low weight and elastic properties. The bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
This cylindrical roller bearing is manufactured with standard radial clearance (in accordance with CN). This standard clearance is designed for standard fits on the shaft and housing, as well as for typical temperature differences between the inner and outer rings during normal operation.
As the NU2208 ECP cylindrical roller bearing is designed as an open bearing without integrated sealing washers, lubrication is supplied via the housing. Furthermore, the outer ring has no lubrication groove or lubrication bore, so the lubricant should be supplied from the side.
The bearing combines two levels of precision: dimensional accuracy complies with standard class P0 (equivalent to ABEC 1), whilst concentricity and axial run-out accuracy comply with the tighter tolerance class P6 (ABEC 3). This contributes to smooth guidance.
