The SKF NU328 ECM cylindrical roller bearing (140x300x62 mm) is a single-row idler bearing with a brass cage designed to accommodate high radial loads whilst accommodating thermal length changes.
The SKF NU328 ECM cylindrical roller bearing is designed for heavy-duty industrial applications where purely radial forces are at work. Thanks to the line contact between the cylindrical rollers, this design can accommodate high transverse forces. The Explorer version features enhanced material quality and a refined surface finish. With its standard radial clearance, the bearing is suitable for normal operating and temperature conditions.
The bearing enables the compensation of axial shaft displacement relative to the housing. In the NU design, the outer ring has two fixed guide flanges, whilst the inner ring is manufactured without flanges. As a result, the rollers slide over the inner ring raceway during operational thermal expansion. Typical applications include bearing arrangements subject to high radial forces, where a separate fixed bearing provides axial guidance.
The solid brass cage keeps the rolling elements at a fixed distance and guides them accurately even under vibrations or shock loads. Brass operates quietly and remains dimensionally stable within a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. The combination of dimensional accuracy to Class P0 (ABEC 1) and running accuracy to Class P6 (ABEC 3) ensures smooth running. As the inner ring can be removed from both sides, the component can be fitted separately.
This roller bearing has an inner diameter of 140 mm, an outer diameter of 300 mm and a width of 62 mm. The outer ring has a smooth finish, i.e. without a ring groove or lubrication bore. Before installation, the shaft seat and the housing bore must be checked against these mounting dimensions.
In the NU design, the outer ring holds the rollers between two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring has no flanges. This allows the inner ring to be moved axially in both directions and removed completely. The bearing thus compensates for changes in the shaft’s length without absorbing any axial forces.
A brass cage guides the cylindrical rollers evenly and prevents them from coming into contact with one another during operation. The material proves to be resistant to acceleration, impact forces and vibrations. Compared with some other cage materials, brass retains its mechanical strength even at operating temperatures of up to +150 degrees.
The dimensional accuracy complies with the standard tolerance P0 (comparable to ABEC 1) as regards the main dimensions. In terms of running accuracy, the model meets the tighter tolerance class P6 (comparable to ABEC 3). As a result, the bearing has lower concentricity tolerances, which contributes to smooth running.
As the bearing is supplied from the factory without sealing washers, lubrication is provided via the surrounding machine housing. Depending on the speed and load level, industrial gear oils or greases are suitable. The surrounding structure also requires separate seals to prevent the ingress of dirt particles.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -30 to +150 degrees Celsius. The dimensional stability of the bearing rings and the brass cage covers this range. It is crucial for operation that the lubricant selected for the associated assembly is also suitable for the respective operating temperature.
