The NU319 ECM/C3 cylindrical roller bearing from SKF Rolling Bearings is a single-row idler bearing with a 95 mm bore that offers high radial load-carrying capacity under thermal stress.
This open cylindrical roller bearing of the NU design, acting purely as a non-locating bearing, accommodates radial loads. Both flanges are located on the outer ring, whilst the inner ring is flangeless. This allows the inner ring to be removed from both sides, facilitating the separate assembly of the shaft and housing. With key dimensions of a 95 mm bore, 200 mm outer diameter and 45 mm width, this version features an optimised internal design and a solid brass cage.
The design is primarily suitable for bearing arrangements where purely radial loads occur and temperature-induced changes in shaft length need to be compensated for. As the inner ring can move freely axially relative to the roller set, thermal expansion can be accommodated without internal stresses. The permissible temperature range is from –30 to +150 degrees Celsius.
The combination of a brass cage and a slightly increased radial clearance (C3) is designed for demanding thermal and dynamic operating conditions. The brass cage guides the cylindrical rollers and is suitable for high accelerations or vibration loads. The increased C3 radial clearance helps to prevent the rolling elements from jamming when temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings or when tight fits reduce the radial clearance.
The NU design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring and a flangeless inner ring that can be removed from either side. The bearing therefore functions purely as a non-locating bearing. It transmits radial forces only and allows for axial displacement of the shaft relative to the housing within the bearing.
The bearing has a bore diameter of 95 mm, an outer diameter of 200 mm and a width of 45 mm. Thanks to the line contact between the cylindrical rollers, this size reliably withstands high radial forces.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This increased clearance between the rollers and raceways serves to compensate for thermal expansion caused by temperature differences and to accommodate any constriction resulting from tight fits on the shaft or housing.
As an open cylindrical roller bearing, this design has neither integrated seals nor lubrication holes in the outer ring. Lubricants such as grease or oil are supplied via the housing design. An external housing seal is required to protect the bearing from contamination and lubricant loss.
The bearing combines two manufacturer-specified accuracy grades: the dimensional accuracy complies with the standard class P0/PN or ABEC 1. The running accuracy is manufactured to tolerance class P6 or ABEC 3, which ensures precise concentricity during operation.
