The NU304 -E-XL-TVP2 cylindrical roller bearing from FAG, with dimensions of 20x52x15 mm, provides a floating bearing arrangement for high radial loads.
The NU304 -E-XL-TVP2 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing from FAG, manufactured to standard tolerance P0/ABEC 1. It has a bore of 20 mm, an outer diameter of 52 mm and a width of 15 mm. Thanks to the line contact between the rollers and the raceway, this design can accommodate high radial forces. As an open bearing without an integrated seal, it is designed for operation with external lubrication within a temperature range of –30 to +120 degrees.
This design is primarily used where purely radial loads occur in conjunction with precise shaft guidance. The NU design functions as a classic idler bearing: as the inner ring can be removed from both sides and has no flanges, the bearing assembly compensates for thermal linear changes in the shaft without constraint within the bearing itself. Typical applications include bearing arrangements where separate fixed and floating bearing configurations are required and axial displacements must be accommodated without inducing stress.
The designation TVP2 refers to a polyamide cage that guides the rolling elements. This cage material operates quietly and has a low weight. The standard radial bearing clearance must be taken into account during design. As the inner ring is flangeless and can be removed from both sides, the inner and outer rings can be fitted separately. The open design requires external sealing of the bearing location to prevent the ingress of dirt.
In the NU design, the outer ring has two fixed guide flanges, whilst the inner ring has no flanges. This allows the inner ring to be removed from either side. The bearing acts as a non-locating bearing and compensates for axial displacement of the shaft relative to the housing within the bearing, without absorbing any axial forces.
With a bore diameter of 20 mm, an outer diameter of 52 mm and a width of 15 mm, the bearing complies with standardised key dimensions. It is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1, making it suitable for standard bearing seats.
The permissible temperature range is between -30 and +120 degrees. This range is primarily limited by the thermal behaviour of the TVP2 polyamide cage. The lubricant used should also be specified for these operating temperatures in order to prevent wear on the raceways and rollers.
The standard radial bearing clearance refers to the manufacturing-related radial clearance between the rollers and the raceways when the bearing is in its unassembled state. It is suitable for standard shaft seats and typical operating temperatures, where there is no need to compensate for extreme thermal expansion between the inner and outer rings.
As an open bearing, this design has no integrated cover or sealing washers. This allows lubricating oil to flow freely or enables the use of grease directly in the bearing seat. At the same time, the housing design must incorporate external seals to protect the bearing from dust, moisture and lubricant loss.
The outer ring is designed without a groove or lubrication bore. The lubricant – grease or oil – is introduced into the rolling element chamber from the side. In the case of circulating oil lubrication or external relubrication via the housing, the lubricant reaches the end faces of the bearing directly.
