The SKF NU2204 ECP cylindrical roller bearing, measuring 20x47x18 mm, offers high radial load-carrying capacity and serves as an easy-to-install idler bearing.
The SKF NU2204 ECP cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing in the Explorer design with an optimised internal structure. Thanks to the line contact between the cylindrical rollers and the raceways, this roller bearing can accommodate high radial forces. Designed as an open bearing, it can be flexibly integrated into oil- or grease-lubricated assemblies and requires external sealing via the surrounding machine housing.
The NU2204 ECP cylindrical roller bearing is primarily used where high radial forces occur at moderate to high speeds. Typical applications include industrial drives and mechanical mountings subject to high radial loads. As the outer ring has two fixed flanges whilst the inner ring is flangeless, the component functions purely as a non-locating bearing. It compensates for operational length changes in the shaft caused by thermal expansion without constraint, axially within the bearing.
The polyamide cage (designation suffix ECP) guides the cylindrical rollers precisely and is characterised by its low weight. This choice of material reduces inertial forces and friction during operation, which minimises noise levels. Furthermore, the NU design allows for separate assembly: the inner ring can be removed from both ends and fitted separately onto the shaft before the unit is assembled with the outer ring and set of rollers. Dimensional accuracy complies with tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1), whilst running accuracy is manufactured to class P6 (ABEC 3).
The bearing has an internal diameter (bore) of 20 mm, an external diameter of 47 mm and a width of 18 mm. These dimensions are suitable for compact shaft bearings in mechanical engineering.
In the NU design, the outer ring has two fixed guide flanges, whilst the inner ring has no flanges. This allows the inner ring to move axially in both directions relative to the roller set. The bearing accommodates radial forces only and compensates for thermal expansion of the shaft.
The abbreviation EC stands for an optimised internal design. The letter P denotes the lightweight polyamide cage, which ensures smooth running and has a positive effect on lubrication requirements.
The permissible operating range is between -30 degrees and +120 degrees Celsius. The upper temperature limit is largely determined by the material of the polyamide cage, which means that the bearing fully meets the thermal requirements of standard industrial drives.
As an open bearing without integrated sealing washers, this model provides free access to the lubricant in the surrounding system, such as an oil bath or circulating lubrication system. To prevent the ingress of dirt, external sealing via a housing cover or sealing rings is required.
The bearing combines two levels of precision: the dimensional accuracy of the mounting dimensions complies with the standard tolerance class P0 or PN (ABEC 1). The running accuracy meets the tighter class P6 or ABEC 3, which contributes to low-vibration and smooth concentricity.
