The FAG NU1008 -M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row non-locating bearing with a 40 mm bore, an outer diameter of 68 mm and a width of 15 mm.
The FAG NU1008 -M1-C3 cylindrical roller bearing is an open rolling bearing designed for high radial loads. The NU design allows the inner ring to be removed from both sides, which facilitates the separate fitting of the inner and outer rings. Fitted with a brass cage and increased C3 bearing clearance, this non-locating bearing compensates for thermal length changes in the shaft without inducing stress within the bearing.
This design is intended for bearing arrangements where purely radial loads are to be supported and axial shaft movements must be compensated for with low friction. Tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1) offers ready-to-fit standard accuracy for industrial use. As the outer ring has no groove or lubrication bore, the lubricant is supplied to the raceways from the side via the housing design.
The solid brass cage, marked M1, maintains a precise spacing between the cylindrical rollers even at varying speeds. The C3 bearing clearance provides increased radial bearing play. This helps to prevent the rolling elements from becoming stressed when press fits on the shaft and housing, or when operating temperatures between –30 and +150 degrees Celsius cause thermal expansion. Sealing is provided by an external seal in the connecting structure.
The NU design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring, whilst the inner ring is flangeless. This allows the inner ring to be withdrawn from both ends and fitted separately from the rollers. During operation, the bearing acts as a non-locating bearing and absorbs axial length changes in the shaft directly via contact with the rolling elements.
With an internal diameter of 40 mm, an external diameter of 68 mm and a width of 15 mm, the bearing complies with standardised mounting dimensions. When designing the bearing mounting, care must be taken to ensure that the shaft is adapted to these dimensions and that there is sufficient axial clearance in the housing to allow for compensation.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This increased clearance compensates for dimensional changes caused by tight fits or temperature differences between the inner and outer rings, and protects the component from premature seizing.
The designation M1 refers to a solid brass cage which guides the rollers whilst maintaining their shape. Compared with sheet metal cages, the brass version is characterised by greater resistance to vibration and covers the bearing’s entire temperature range from -30 to +150 degrees Celsius.
As an open bearing without integrated sealing washers, the bearing must be lubricated with grease or oil via the housing design once it has been fitted. As the outer ring has no groove or lubrication bore, the lubricant is fed directly into the roller set from the end face.
The permissible operating range extends from -30 to +150 degrees Celsius. Both the dimensionally stable bearing rings and the brass cage are designed to withstand these temperatures. The choice of lubricant must be tailored to the relevant thermal operating window.
