The FAG NJ2218 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing, with dimensions of 90 × 160 × 40 mm, can accommodate high radial loads and supports shafts axially on one side as a support bearing.
The NJ2218 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing with cylindrical rollers. Thanks to the line contact between the rollers, this design transmits high radial forces whilst maintaining a compact construction. The NJ version has two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. As a result, the bearing acts as a support bearing that limits shaft movement in one axial direction whilst simultaneously allowing axial compensating movements in the opposite direction.
This bearing is used when high radial loads act on the shaft and additional axial forces from one direction need to be accommodated. As the inner ring can be removed from one side, the bearing assembly can be fitted in a structured manner. Both bearing rings can be pressed onto the shaft and housing separately, which facilitates installation in enclosed assemblies.
The suffix ‘M1’ denotes a solid brass cage that guides the rollers. Brass is characterised by dimensional stability and favourable emergency running properties. This material is suitable for applications involving severe vibrations, varying speeds or impact loads. In combination with the permissible temperature range of –30 to +150 degrees, the open bearing retains its dimensional stability even under thermal stress. Depending on the operating requirements, lubricating oil or roller bearing grease is used for lubrication.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 90 mm, an outside diameter of 160 mm and a width of 40 mm. These dimensions correspond to the metric size series for single-row cylindrical roller bearings. Before fitting, check that the bearing seat on the shaft and the housing bore are dimensionally accurate.
The NJ design is a thrust bearing. The outer ring has two fixed guide flanges, whilst the inner ring has a single flange on one side. This design accommodates high radial forces and supports the shaft in the axial direction. In the opposite direction, the design allows for axial displacement.
The designation M1 refers to a solid brass cage. The cage guides the cylindrical rollers precisely and maintains a uniform distance between them. Brass cages offer high mechanical strength, dampen vibrations and are suitable for demanding operating environments involving dynamic loads.
The bearing is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance, which is designed for the majority of standard industrial applications. The dimensional and concentricity tolerances comply with tolerance class P0 and ABEC 1 respectively. This ensures reliable fitting accuracy for standardised shaft and housing seats in mechanical engineering.
The permissible operating range is from -30 to +150 degrees Celsius. As this is an open bearing without integrated seals, the maximum operating temperature depends largely on the lubricant used. An external seal on the housing protects the raceways from dirt and lubricant loss.
The bearing has no sealing washers and no lubrication holes in the outer ring. Grease or lubricating oil is supplied via the installation space in the machine housing. Ensure that the lubricant is supplied cleanly to protect the contact surfaces between the rolling elements and the bearing races from friction wear.
