The SKF NJ2214 ECP cylindrical roller bearing, measuring 70x125x31 mm, offers high radial load-carrying capacity and acts as a support bearing with axial guidance.
The NJ2214 ECP cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing from the SKF Explorer range with an optimised internal design. This open bearing features an outer ring without a lubrication bore and an inner ring that fitters can slide off from one side. With an inner diameter of 70 mm, an outer diameter of 125 mm and a width of 31 mm, the component primarily absorbs high transverse forces.
As a support bearing, this design guides shafts in an axial direction whilst allowing for changes in length due to thermal expansion in the opposite direction. The line contact of the cylindrical rollers distributes the load widely across the raceways, enabling the component to withstand high radial forces whilst maintaining a compact design. Typical applications include industrial shaft bearings where fixed housing clearances and high radial shaft loads coexist.
The polyamide material reduces the component’s weight and minimises friction losses during rotation. Thanks to the removable inner ring, technicians can mount both bearing rings separately onto the shaft and housing. As this is an unsealed bearing, designers incorporate external sealing elements and tailor the lubricant supply to the permissible operating range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The NJ design has two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. This allows the bearing to act as a support bearing: it absorbs main radial loads, supports axial forces from one direction and allows for the compensation of shaft displacement in the opposite direction.
The bearing has a cylindrical bore of 70 mm for the shaft seat. The outer diameter is 125 mm and the width across flats is 31 mm. These standardised dimensions allow for the direct replacement of identical cylindrical roller bearings in existing machine housings.
The bearing combines two levels of precision: dimensional accuracy complies with standard class P0 or ABEC 1. For running accuracy, the tighter tolerance class P6 or ABEC 3 applies, which contributes to smooth concentricity in guided shafts.
At SKF, ECP refers to an optimised internal design and a polyamide cage. The polyamide cage guides the cylindrical rollers evenly, enabling the rolling element set to run quietly and with low friction.
As an open roller bearing, the NJ2214 has no integrated cover plates or sealing washers. Lubrication with oil or grease is provided via the system housing, whereby external seals must protect the bearing against the ingress of dirt and the loss of lubricant.
The approved temperature operating range extends from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. The limiting factor here is the polyamide cage, whose material properties remain stable within these limits. The lubricant selected must be suitable for this operating range.
