The SKF NU205 ECP/C3 cylindrical roller bearing, measuring 25x52x15 mm, offers single-row radial support, a polyamide cage and increased C3 bearing clearance for demanding installation locations.
The NU205 ECP/C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing from SKF with an optimised internal design. Designed with a 25 mm bore, 52 mm outer diameter and 15 mm width, this version can accommodate high radial loads. As an open idler bearing, the NU design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring, whilst the flangeless inner ring can be removed from both sides. This allows the bearing to compensate effortlessly for axial length changes in the shaft within the raceway.
Design engineers and maintenance personnel primarily use this design at bearing locations where thermal expansion of the shaft must be accommodated. The combination of linear force transmission by the rollers and axial displacement relieves housings and shafts of undesirable stresses. Typical applications are found in industrial shaft bearings subject to high radial loads. Thanks to its manufacture to dimensional accuracy class P0 (ABEC 1) and increased running accuracy class P6 (ABEC 3), the component runs smoothly even under varying load conditions.
The polyamide cage (designation ECP) guides the cylindrical rollers with low friction and absorbs shocks elastically. It limits the permissible temperature range to –30 to +120 degrees Celsius, whilst reducing inertial forces during operation. The increased radial clearance (C3) helps to ensure that the bearing does not become stressed due to operational heating or tight fits. As the outer ring has neither lubrication grooves nor bores, the lubricant is supplied from the side via the open bearing system.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 25 mm, an outside diameter of 52 mm and a width of 15 mm. These key dimensions define the cylindrical fit on the shaft and the fit within the housing bore.
The designation NU refers to a non-locating bearing in which the outer ring has two guide flanges and the inner ring has no flanges. This allows the inner ring to be pulled out from either side, which facilitates installation and removal and enables the bearing to compensate for axial length variations.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This additional operating clearance compensates for temperature- or fit-related expansion of the shaft and inner ring, ensuring that the rollers can rotate freely even under load.
The designation ECP refers to a polyamide roller cage combined with an optimised internal design. This type of cage is characterised by its low weight, operates quietly and is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
As the open bearing has no integrated seals and the outer ring is manufactured without a groove or lubrication bore, grease or oil is supplied via the surrounding housing structure. External seals on the connecting structure protect the lubricant from contamination.
The component combines dimensional accuracy of Class P0 or standard tolerance (corresponding to ABEC 1) with finer running accuracy of Class P6 (corresponding to ABEC 3). This classification ensures low run-out deviations with standardised mounting dimensions.
