The SKF NJ311 ECJ/C3 cylindrical roller bearing with a 55 mm bore offers high radial load capacity and axial guidance in one direction.
The NJ311 ECJ/C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row roller bearing with an optimised internal design for demanding industrial applications. With key dimensions of 55 mm inside diameter, 120 mm outside diameter and 29 mm width, this design is suitable for assemblies subject to high radial forces. SKF manufactures this open bearing without a seal, which allows for direct integration into existing oil or grease lubrication circuits. The sheet steel cage guides the cylindrical rolling elements between the raceways.
Typical applications include shaft mountings where dominant transverse forces need to be absorbed. As a support bearing, this NJ design accommodates not only radial loads but also axial forces from one direction. In the opposite direction, the bearing allows axial displacement of the shaft within the housing. Designs make specific use of this property to compensate for operational thermal expansion of shafts without constraint, without generating stress in the system.
The NJ design is characterised by two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. This allows the inner ring to be removed from one side, which facilitates separate pressing onto the shaft and housing. The slightly increased radial clearance C3 serves to compensate for dimensional changes in press fits or temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. The permissible temperature range is from -30 to +150 degrees Celsius.
This cylindrical roller bearing has a bore diameter of 55 mm, an outer diameter of 120 mm and a width of 29 mm. The dimensional accuracy complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, whilst the running accuracy is manufactured to class P6 or ABEC 3. The outer ring has no groove and no lubrication bore.
The NJ design functions as a support bearing. The outer ring has two solid flanges, whilst the inner ring has a flange-side stop. This design transmits radial forces and supports axial loads in one direction. At the same time, the design allows for axial displacement in the opposite direction, thereby accommodating thermal expansion of the shaft.
Bearing clearance class C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This increased clearance reduces the risk of the rolling elements seizing up in the event of tight fits on the shaft or when the bearing heats up during operation. As a result, the bearing continues to run smoothly and internal stresses on the raceways are reduced.
The suffix ‘ECJ’ denotes an optimised internal design featuring a stamped sheet steel cage. This type of cage is characterised by its low weight. It guides the rollers stably between the flanges and is designed for lubricants within an operating temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees Celsius.
As this cylindrical roller bearing is of an open design and has no integrated sealing washers, lubrication must be supplied via the housing. You can operate the bearing using either grease or oil. External seals in the surrounding structure are required to prevent the ingress of dirt and the loss of lubricant.
