The SKF N226 ECP cylindrical roller bearing, a single-row non-locating bearing measuring 130 × 230 × 40 mm, offers high radial load-carrying capacity in a compact design.
The N226 ECP cylindrical roller bearing is an open, single-row rolling bearing for industrial applications subject to purely radial loads. With a bore of 130 mm, an outer diameter of 230 mm and a width of 40 mm, the bearing can withstand considerable forces. The manufacturer, SKF, produces this version in the Explorer class with an optimised internal design. The roller bearing is designed for demanding shaft mountings where radial guidance is the primary requirement.
This cylindrical roller bearing is particularly suitable for bearing arrangements where high radial forces occur and axial length changes in the shaft must be compensated for. As a floating bearing with an outer ring that can be removed from both sides, it does not guide the shaft axially but allows for axial displacement within the bearing. Typical applications include bearing arrangements subject to high radial forces and temperature-induced shaft expansion. The N design also allows for separate assembly of the inner and outer rings, which facilitates installation.
The integrated polyamide cage reduces the weight of the rotating parts and promotes smooth, low-vibration operation. The N design is characterised by two solid flanges on the inner ring, whilst the outer ring has no flanges. This allows both bearing rings to be mounted separately onto the shaft and into the housing. The bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees. With dimensional accuracy to P0/PN (ABEC 1) and running accuracy to P6 (ABEC 3), this design also meets precise concentricity requirements.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 130 mm, an external diameter of 230 mm and a total width of 40 mm. These standardised key dimensions enable it to be fitted precisely into housing bores and onto shafts of the corresponding nominal size.
In the N design, the inner ring guides the cylindrical rollers between two fixed flanges, whilst the outer ring is manufactured without flanges. As a result, the component functions purely as a non-locating bearing. It accommodates radial loads only and allows the shaft to undergo thermal expansion and contraction unimpeded.
The designation ‘ECP’ refers to an optimised internal design combined with a lightweight polyamide cage. This type of cage reduces friction and the moving mass during operation, runs quietly and is suitable for use in a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
The bearing combines dimensional accuracy of class P0 or PN (equivalent to ABEC 1) with finer running accuracy of class P6 (equivalent to ABEC 3). This specification ensures precise concentricity of the shaft whilst maintaining a practical fit within the housing seat.
As this is an open design without integrated sealing washers, the bearing requires external sealing of the housing assembly. Depending on the operating conditions, lubrication can be carried out using grease or oil. There is no lubrication channel or circumferential groove on the outer ring.
The product has the standard radial bearing clearance (CN). This standard value is sufficient for typical shaft fit conditions and normal temperature differences between the inner and outer rings during operation, without causing any unacceptable stresses between the rollers and raceways.
