The SKF RNU203 TN9 cylindrical roller bearing features a space-saving design without an inner ring, measuring 22.9 x 40 x 12 mm, and is designed for purely radial loads.
The RNU203 TN9 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing manufactured by SKF, designed without a separate inner ring. The cylindrical rollers run directly on the hardened and ground shaft journal. With a pitch circle diameter of 22.9 mm, an outer diameter of 40 mm and a width of 12 mm, this design is suitable for installation spaces with limited radial clearance. The open bearing has a standard radial clearance and an outer ring without a lubrication groove.
This radial roller bearing is used in bearing arrangements where high radial forces must be accommodated and radial installation space is limited. By omitting the inner ring, the shaft diameter can be maximised whilst maintaining the same outer diameter, which increases the stiffness of the entire shaft. The open design allows for direct integration into the existing lubrication systems of the surrounding assembly.
The TN9 version is fitted with a polyamide cage. This cage guides the cylindrical rollers evenly, ensuring low friction and smooth running. The design covers a temperature range from -30 to +120 degrees. With dimensional accuracy to tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1) and finer running accuracy to P6 (ABEC 3), the roller bearing supports precise rotational movements. During design, care must be taken to ensure that the shaft is properly hardened and has a suitable surface finish.
The RNU series does not have a separate inner ring. The roller cage is guided directly by the outer ring and runs directly on the shaft. This design saves radial space and allows for stiffer shaft diameters whilst maintaining compact housing dimensions.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 22.9 mm for the roller set. The outer diameter is 40 mm and the width is 12 mm. The outer ring is smooth, i.e. without a circumferential groove or separate lubrication holes.
The abbreviation TN9 denotes a polyamide cage. This cage is characterised by low inertia and smooth running properties, and is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees.
This model is designed as an open roller bearing without integrated cover or sealing discs. Sealing against contaminants and moisture, as well as ensuring that the lubricant remains within the bearing, must therefore be achieved via the surrounding structure, for example by means of radial shaft seals in the housing.
As the rollers run directly on the shaft, the shaft journal acts as the inner raceway. The surface must be suitably hardened, finely ground and free from damage in order to achieve the roller bearing’s full load-carrying capacity and service life.
The bearing combines dimensional accuracy in the ‘Normal’ class (P0 or ABEC 1) with increased running accuracy (P6 or ABEC 3). This ensures precise concentricity during operation with standardised mounting dimensions.
