The FAG NJ318 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing (90x190x43 mm) accommodates high radial forces as well as unilateral axial loads, and guides the rollers within a solid brass cage.
The single-row cylindrical roller bearing NJ318 -E-M1 from FAG is designed as a support bearing. Thanks to the line contact between the cylindrical rollers and the raceways, the design can withstand high radial forces in machine bearings. The inner ring has a fixed flange and is removable from one side. As a result, the open roller bearing allows a defined axial displacement of the shaft in one direction, whilst supporting axial forces from the opposite direction.
Design engineers and maintenance personnel use this design primarily where shaft expansion due to temperature changes needs to be compensated for, whilst axial guidance remains necessary. Typical applications include shaft mountings in general mechanical engineering. As the inner ring can be removed from one side, the bearing can be fitted separately. This facilitates installation in confined spaces and simplifies maintenance work on the shaft.
The designation ‘M1’ refers to a solid brass cage. Compared with standard sheet steel cages, brass is characterised by high strength and good run-out properties, which is advantageous in the event of impact loads or vibrations. The bearing operates within a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. As the outer ring is manufactured without a lubrication bore and there are no integrated seals, lubrication is supplied via the surrounding housing using a suitable lubricating oil or rolling-element bearing grease.
The NJ design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. As a result, the component acts as a thrust bearing, which locks shafts in one axial direction whilst allowing axial movement in the other direction.
The bearing has a bore diameter of 90 mm, an outer diameter of 190 mm and a width of 43 mm. These key dimensions determine the required fit on the shaft and in the bearing housing.
The solid brass cage keeps the cylindrical rollers at a distance from one another. Brass dampens vibrations and withstands acceleration forces as well as thermal stresses during operation.
The operating ambient temperature specified for the cylindrical roller bearing is between -30 and +150 degrees. This requires a lubricant that fully retains its lubricating properties within this temperature range.
The standard radial bearing clearance refers to the clearance between the rolling elements and raceways, as set by the manufacturer when the bearing is in its unassembled state. It is suitable for conventional fit designs and balanced operating temperatures.
The component is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. This standard tolerance meets the standard requirements for running accuracy and dimensional stability in industrial mechanical engineering.
