The SKF NU218 ECP cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row non-locating bearing with a 90 mm bore and a polyamide cage, designed for high radial loads.
The SKF NU218 ECP cylindrical roller bearing, as a single-row radial roller bearing, accommodates high radial loads. The cylindrical rollers create a line contact that supports high loads during operation. This version has the following main dimensions: a 90 mm bore, a 160 mm outer diameter and a 30 mm width. As an open bearing, the bearing housing can be specifically lubricated via an external lubricant supply and flexibly integrated into machine designs.
The NU design, with its inner ring removable from both sides, functions as a classic idler bearing primarily for pure radial loads. The bearing compensates internally and without stress for axial changes in shaft length caused by thermal expansion. This design is not intended for axial guidance forces, so in practice it is typically combined with a fixed bearing.
The integrated polyamide cage guides the rolling elements with low mass and low-noise operation at operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius. The NU design also facilitates assembly, as the outer ring with roller set and the inner ring can be mounted separately onto the shaft and housing. With standard dimensional tolerance P0 and increased running accuracy P6, the bearing meets defined accuracy requirements.
With a bore of 90 mm, an outside diameter of 160 mm and a width of 30 mm, the bearing has standardised key dimensions. These dimensions determine the required shaft and housing fits and enable the bearing to be integrated precisely into the intended design.
The NU design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring, whilst the inner ring is flangeless. This allows the inner ring to be fitted separately and moved axially. This design compensates for operational length changes in the shaft during operation and protects the bearing arrangement from internal stresses caused by thermal expansion.
The polyamide cage guides the rollers, which have a low mass and good elasticity. The material dampens vibrations, reduces friction losses and ensures smooth running of the roller assembly. It is important to note the bearing’s temperature operating limit, which ranges from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
As this roller bearing has an open design, it does not have any integrated seals. You can lubricate the bearing location using either grease or oil via the housing system. To do this, the housing requires external seals to ensure that the chosen lubricant remains within the bearing and that no foreign particles enter the roller conveyors.
This tolerance class combines dimensional accuracy in accordance with Class P0 or Normal with increased running accuracy in accordance with Class P6. Whilst the mating dimensions comply with the standard tolerance, the rotating ring exhibits lower run-out errors. This promotes precise shaft guidance whilst reducing vibration excitation during operation.
The permissible operating range extends from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. Both the dimensional stability of the bearing rings and the material properties of the polyamide cage are designed to suit this temperature range. Applications outside this range require special materials or alternative cage materials.
