The FAG N221 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing, measuring 105 x 190 x 36 mm, offers high radial load-carrying capacity as a separable loose bearing.
The N221 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing from FAG designed for demanding industrial applications. With a bore of 105 mm, an outside diameter of 190 mm and a width of 36 mm, this design can withstand considerable radial forces. The solid brass cage guides the cylindrical rollers precisely and is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +150 degrees. The open bearing has standard radial clearance and a tolerance class of P0/PN or ABEC 1 for reliable use in mechanical engineering.
This single-row cylindrical roller bearing is primarily intended for bearing arrangements that must accommodate high radial forces. Typical applications include compact bearing arrangements with axial shaft displacement. As the outer ring is designed to be removable on both sides, the design functions purely as a non-locating bearing. It compensates for changes in shaft length caused by thermal expansion without any restriction within the bearing itself. The absence of a lubrication groove on the outer ring requires a targeted supply of lubricant via the housing design.
In the N design, the inner ring has fixed flanges, whilst the outer ring remains flangeless and can be removed from both sides. This makes assembly considerably easier, as the inner and outer rings can be fitted separately. The built-in brass cage helps to ensure stable roller guidance, even under vibration. As this is an open bearing without an integrated seal, designers can tailor the lubricant and external sealing to the specific environmental conditions.
This bearing has an inside diameter of 105 mm, an outside diameter of 190 mm and a width of 36 mm. These dimensions correspond to the standardised main dimensions for cylindrical roller bearings in this series. Before installation, the shaft seat and housing bore should be checked to ensure a precise fit.
The N design is a non-locating bearing in which the inner ring has two fixed flanges and the outer ring is flangeless. This allows the outer ring to be removed from either side. The bearing accommodates radial forces only and allows for axial displacement of the shaft relative to the housing during operation.
The designation M1 refers to a solid brass cage for guiding the roller elements. Brass cages offer high mechanical strength and thermal stability. This design proves its worth under conditions involving vibration or shock, where conventional cages reach their limits.
The permissible temperature range is between -30 and +150 degrees. The actual operating limit is determined not only by the dimensional stability of the rings and rolling elements, but above all by the lubricant used. At high operating temperatures, it is advisable to use a grease or lubricating oil with the appropriate thermal resistance.
This specification refers to the standard radial clearance of the bearing when unloaded prior to installation. Once fitted onto the shaft or in the housing, this clearance is reduced due to fit allowances. The standard bearing clearance is suitable for standard operating conditions without excessive temperature differences between the shaft and the housing.
Open bearings offer design flexibility in the choice of lubrication method, using oil or grease via the machine housing. As the N221 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing is manufactured without integrated sealing washers, protection against contamination and moisture is provided by external sealing elements in the surrounding housing structure.
