The FAG NUP228 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row fixed bearing with a brass cage, designed for shaft diameters of 140 mm under high radial loads.
The FAG NUP228 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing is an open, single-row rolling bearing for industrial applications involving predominantly high radial loads. With a bore of 140 mm, an outer diameter of 250 mm and a width of 42 mm, this roller bearing reliably supports heavy shaft sections. As a fixed bearing, the NUP design absorbs axial forces in both directions via two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange and one loose flange disc on the inner ring.
This cylindrical roller bearing is recommended for applications where high radial forces occur and axial fixation of the shaft is required at the same time. The fixed bearing design serves to limit axial displacement of the rotating components within the housing. As this is an open design without integrated seals, lubrication is provided via external lubrication with grease or oil. The outer ring is designed without a groove or lubrication bore.
The suffix M1 denotes a solid brass cage, which keeps the cylindrical rollers in the bearing at a distance and guides them. Brass is characterised by its mechanical strength and withstands high accelerations or vibrations that occur during operation. Combined with a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees, the unit is suitable for industrial applications subject to thermal stress. It is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance and to tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1.
The NUP design features a fixed bearing with two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange and one loose flange disc on the inner ring. As a result, the cylindrical roller bearing can support high radial loads and guide the shaft axially in both directions, thereby limiting axial displacement of the supported components within the housing.
The bearing has a cylindrical bore with an internal diameter of 140 mm, an external diameter of 250 mm and a width of 42 mm. Prior to fitting, these dimensions are used to check the mating surfaces on the shaft and in the housing bore.
The suffix M1 denotes a solid brass cage. Brass cages offer high resistance to mechanical stress and vibrations, and help to ensure smooth guidance of the rolling elements under demanding operating conditions.
The permissible operating temperature range for this bearing is from -30 to +150 degrees. As it is designed as an open bearing without integrated contact seals, in practice it is primarily the selected lubricant that determines the thermal operating limit of the bearing housing.
The bearing is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance and complies with Class P0 manufacturing tolerances, or standard tolerance PN, comparable to ABEC 1. This design meets the usual requirements for dimensional and concentricity accuracy in mechanical engineering.
As an open roller bearing without an integrated seal, the bearing housing requires an external housing seal to protect it from dirt and moisture. Lubrication is provided by the plant’s lubrication system using grease or oil, as the outer ring is designed without a lubrication groove or lubrication bore.
