The SKF NJ220 ECP cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row support bearing with a polyamide cage, offering high radial load-carrying capacity with dimensions of 100 × 180 × 34 mm.
The SKF NJ220 ECP cylindrical roller bearing is an open, single-row rolling bearing with an optimised internal design in the Explorer series. With key dimensions of a 100 mm bore, 180 mm outside diameter and 34 mm width, this bearing is primarily designed to accommodate high radial forces. The outer ring has two solid flanges, whilst the inner ring has one flange. This design enables axial guidance in one direction. This design is used where radial loads occur in combination with one-sided axial fixation of the shaft.
This rolling bearing is suitable for bearing arrangements subject to high radial forces, where shafts must be axially guided on one side. When used as a support bearing, the NJ design accommodates axial loads from one direction, whilst the axial displacement in the opposite direction compensates for thermally induced changes in the shaft’s length. The design is suitable for rotating industrial applications with single-sided guidance. The inner ring, which can be removed from one side, facilitates both separate installation and subsequent inspection work on the shaft.
The ECP design combines an optimised internal geometry with a lightweight polyamide cage. This cage reduces friction and the mass of the rolling element set, which promotes smooth running. The bearing is designed for a temperature range of –30 to +120 degrees and has standard radial clearance. Thanks to its manufacture to dimensional accuracy to P0/PN (ABEC 1) and increased running accuracy to P6 (ABEC 3), the bearing can be precisely integrated into existing machine assemblies. As this is an open bearing, an external seal protects the lubrication point.
With an internal diameter of 100 mm, an external diameter of 180 mm and a width of 34 mm, the roller bearing complies with standard metric dimensions. These dimensions enable it to be fitted precisely into housings and onto shafts in accordance with standardised specifications. Thanks to the single-row roller arrangement, the radial space requirement remains compact in relation to the load-carrying capacity.
In the NJ design, the outer ring has two solid flanges and the inner ring has one solid flange. As a result, the bearing acts as a support bearing: it absorbs radial loads and guides the shaft in one axial direction, whilst axial displacement remains possible in the other direction.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -30 to +120 degrees. This range is limited, amongst other things, by the polyamide cage fitted and the lubricant selected for the connecting assembly. Within this temperature range, the material retains its mechanical properties for continuous industrial use.
The roller bearing is designed with standard radial clearance. In terms of dimensional accuracy, it complies with tolerance classes P0 and ABEC 1 respectively. With regard to running accuracy, the bearing meets the tighter class P6 and ABEC 3 respectively, which contributes to low-vibration operation of the shaft.
As an open roller bearing, the NJ220 ECP is not fitted with integrated sealing washers or pre-lubricated with grease at the factory. Sealing against dirt and moisture, as well as lubrication with grease or oil, is provided by the surrounding housing structure. The outer ring is designed without a lubrication groove or lubrication bore.
The inner ring can be pulled out from one side, as the rollers are firmly guided within the outer ring. This allows the inner ring to be fitted to the shaft and the outer ring to be fitted to the housing separately. This method makes handling easier during assembly and disassembly.
