The NU407 cylindrical roller bearing from FAG Rolling Bearings is a single-row idler bearing measuring 35 × 100 × 25 mm, offering a high radial load-carrying capacity for industrial shaft mountings.
As a cylindrical roller bearing, the NU407 absorbs high radial forces. The cylindrical rolling elements create line contact with the raceway, which enables greater rigidity and load-carrying capacity compared to ball bearings, which are subjected to point loads. The FAG roller bearing design features standard radial clearance and the standardised tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1). A sheet steel cage guides the rollers evenly and keeps friction resistance low.
It is primarily used in bearing locations where only radial forces act and where thermal linear expansion of the shaft needs to be compensated for. As the bearing has an open design, it can be flexibly lubricated with application-specific lubricants. The bearing components are designed for a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees.
In the NU design, the outer ring has two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring is flangeless and can be removed from both sides. This design functions purely as a non-locating bearing and allows the shaft to move relative to the housing without axial constraint when heated. Furthermore, the separable inner ring simplifies assembly and disassembly, as both rings can be fitted separately. As the outer ring has no groove or lubrication bore, the lubricant is supplied via the housing design.
With an internal diameter of 35 mm, an external diameter of 100 mm and a width of 25 mm, the bearing complies with the standardised main dimensions. These dimensions enable it to be fitted precisely into housings and onto shafts designed for this size series.
The NU design features two fixed guide flanges on the outer ring, whilst the inner ring has no flanges. This allows the inner ring to be moved axially in both directions and removed completely. The bearing therefore functions purely as a non-locating bearing and does not absorb any axial forces.
As the bearing is manufactured as an open design without integrated sealing washers, lubrication is provided by the surrounding structure. Depending on the operating requirements, either grease or oil is used. The housing requires external seals to prevent lubricant loss and the ingress of dirt.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -30 and +150 degrees. The sheet steel cage and the bearing rings are designed for this temperature range. The maximum operating temperature during operation also depends on the thermal resistance of the lubricant used.
Standard radial bearing clearance refers to the specified radial clearance as supplied, prior to installation. This clearance ensures that, once the bearing rings have been pressed onto the shaft and housing, sufficient operating clearance remains to prevent the rollers from seizing up during operation.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to class ABEC 1 in the US system. This tolerance class specifies the permissible dimensional and runout tolerances for typical requirements in general mechanical engineering.
