Axial Spherical Roller B. SKF 29414 E

The SKF 29414 E axial self-aligning roller bearing with a 70 mm bore accommodates high unilateral axial forces and compensates for misalignment.

The 29414 E axial self-aligning roller bearing is a rolling bearing designed for applications where axial loads predominate in one direction. Thanks to the crowned rollers and the spherical housing raceway, the bearing adjusts to angular misalignment. As a result, this bearing compensates for operational shaft deflection as well as misalignment between the shaft and housing. Manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6), SKF’s Explorer series offers high load-carrying capacity under demanding conditions in continuous industrial operation.

In which applications does the 29414 E axial self-aligning roller bearing prove its worth?

This bearing is used where heavy axial loads need to be supported whilst misalignments arising from manufacturing or operation are present. Typical applications include vertical shaft mountings and heavily loaded industrial gearboxes. As the bearing is designed to act on one side only, it supports forces in an axial direction. If combined loads occur, the component can also transmit radial load components, provided that a minimum axial load is acting on the roller sets.

What are the distinctive features of the cage and material used in the Explorer version?

The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements with low friction and withstands vibrations. In combination with the 100Cr6 material, the bearing is suitable for a wide temperature range from –30 to +200 degrees. The tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1) defines standardised mounting dimensions with a shaft diameter of 70 mm, an outer diameter of 150 mm and a height of 48 mm. As the bearing is not self-retaining, the shaft and housing washers can be fitted separately.

What is a 29414 E axial self-aligning roller bearing?

A single-direction axial bearing with barrel-shaped rollers, designed to accommodate heavy axial loads. The spherical raceway of the housing disc allows for shaft misalignment, thereby compensating for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation without significantly affecting the service life of the components.

What are the dimensions of the 29414 E axial self-aligning roller bearing?

The bore for the shaft measures 70 mm. The outer diameter at the housing flange is 150 mm and the total height of the bearing is 48 mm. These dimensions comply with the specifications of tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, respectively, for a precise fit when installed in housings and machine components.

What is the operating temperature range for this bearing?

The roller bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees. The standard 100Cr6 roller bearing steel used and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability within this temperature range. When designing the bearing, care must be taken to ensure that the selected lubricant is rated for the same thermal limits as the specific application.

What makes the Explorer version from SKF stand out?

Bearings in the Explorer performance class feature an optimised internal geometry and a refined surface finish on the contact surfaces. These manufacturing adjustments minimise stress peaks on the raceways, reduce friction and enhance operational reliability under heavy axial loads and moderate additional radial forces.

Why is the bearing designated as single-acting?

Single-acting designs support axial forces in one direction only. The rolling element set transmits the load from the shaft disc obliquely to the spherical housing disc. For axial forces in opposite directions or alternating loads, a second counter-bearing or appropriate preload in the bearing system is required.

How are the bearing components fitted?

As axial self-aligning roller bearings are not self-retaining, the shaft ring with roller ring and the housing ring can be fitted separately onto the shaft and housing. When installing, ensure correct alignment and a sufficient minimum axial load so that the rolling elements roll over the raceways without slippage during start-up.
